"Guillermo González, con sangre rojinegra y tapatía, es la sensación de la selección Sub-17 de Estados Unidos".
Guillermo Gonzalez, with Red and Black (Atlas) and Tapatio (from Guadalajara) blood is the sensation of the U-17 USMNT.
"Es, además uno de los prospectos más valiosos de la selección Sub-17 de Estados Unidos y además una de las promesas más notables desde el despuntamiento de otro californiano, Landon Donovan".
He is also one of the most valuble prospects of the U-17 national team and one of the most promising players since Landon Donovan. The article also mentions the kid getting scouted by Udinese, Manchester City and Borrusia Dortmund.

I know, we kinda have been tracking all those who have been in residency at the Bradenton Academy. He has always been a part of that, I believe.
Not sure where he best fits, cuz I've never seen him play, but I've heard nuthin but good things.
The only "Guille" I know of has a twin named Gustavo. Guille plays for the Half + 1.

No. His nickname is Memo. He is 5-11 so physically more assemble to Quaranta then Donovan. He is suppose to play attacking midfielder. So his backup on that spot is named Freddy Adu :>).
Realistically speaking, MLS will break the bank to sign him to not repeat Donovan mistake. Then he will be traded to L.A. where he can stay with his parents and Cienfiogo will be his mentor to play in attacking midfielder role for Galaxy.

No. His nickname is Memo.
That nickname is too common and overused compared to "el Guille" :)

Cienfuegos, poor kid :D

Yeah, Memo has a bright future apparently. Keep monitoring this forum VS, we have updates on him every couple of weeks. AndyMead has a lot of photos of the U-17's with several pics of Memo.
Apparently several posters here know Memo and have kept us updated on at least some of his trials, so when there's a U-17 thread check it out. :)

Memo is said to be weighing his options. If he gets the right offer$$$$ he might sign with MLS. Europe and Mexico big possibilty. He has a cousin who is a scout for Atlas in Mexico and has been in contact with various European clubs.

This makes no sense to me...the kid isn't going to qualify for a WP for years (if ever.)

I'm just curious about one thing. Obviously, a big club will be able to offer Memo a lot more than MLS. However, MLS can offer the ability to stay local (i.e., it could be "arranged" for him to go to LA). Would that be enough to make up for the difference in dollars?

if he's not going to play for a year of two (maybe a big IF), wouldn't he rather be in Europe in their development structure?
Agree with superdave re a work permit.
On the other hand, if Atlas want him, what's to say he wouldn't, shouldn't sign with them?

One thing guys Memo can not sign in Europe until he is 18 years old. Memo is looking at all the Pros and Cons of either going or staying. I heard his meeting with Tim Leiweke President&CEO of AEG, WHO OWN 5 OR 6 teams went good. Memo had some questions answered. In regard to the league and their future. Also nothing is for sure he has to go in the draft in January. If the offer is not good money wise or other things he is looking for in the contract. He will most likely wait until after Finland.(u17 World Cup)

MLS refused Mike Magee's request to go to Fire. Bob Bradley is the one who notified Ellinger on Magee.
But Memo is different. MLS isn't after Magee in first place--Quaranta and E. Johnson took that honor. Looks Memo is in Donovan's class, so I guess he would stay in LA. He is a perfect fit for Galaxy.

Then why didn't Donovan end up in LA? He is from Redlands, after all, which is a far sight closer to LA than it is to San Jose.
MLS player movements may not be totally transparent, but they aren't totally contrived, either. At least not since the Chris Albright and Luis Hernandez dissasters. If Memo signs with MLS, he should go in the draft like everyone else. There may then be some trades, etc. that land him in LA, but at least the status of teams in the draft would matter.

In Chris Albright, Convey and Quaranta, they are promised to play in DC. Those trading up are just a MLS game to play. In Donovan's case, he didn't press to play for Galaxy. MLS is trying to get SJ Sharks in the league, so they just send Donovan a welcome gift. Of course, they gave Galaxy "The Fish" as compensation.

umm, your history is a bit off here I think.
Re having to be 18 to sign. Why is that? Is it because he's rostered to an existing USSF team? If so, couldn't the team just take him off their roster and let him go?
