Yeah, Reyes was out for weeks after that tackle. Wait....what? So, does that excuse Scholes for the tackle that he made?

No, thankfully Reyes wasn't injured as badly as first thought. He DID, however, have to leave that match.

Quite true, and I think we all know Scholes is a piss-poor tackler to begin with. But either way, I think the tackle looked a lot worse than it was, because honestly it wasn't that bad.

He was booked, so I'm not sure what your beef is. I generally don't like to argue over stuff that happened four months ago, but you can't seriously think it was "malicious", i.e. with intent to harm.

Well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, since there isn't technically any way to say if the tackle was intended to cause harm. All the angles I saw said that it was accidental. Just like we don't know if Wenger honestly believed Reyes would be out for weeks, or if he said it to try to get Scholes banned.
Benefit of the doubt, I guess.

I'm willing to give Scholes the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't trying to injure Reyes. He's a poor tackler but I don't think he's THAT kind of player. However, I think there's a difference between not going for the ball and trying to injure and I do think, IMHO, that his tackle was an example of the former.
The only reason I'm mentioning any of this isn't to drum up something that happened months ago. It's just that I think a lot of United supporters (not you necessarily) love to point out that Reyes wasn't really injured when he did, in fact, have to be pulled out of that particular match. It's that latter point that I think is often overlooked.
As far as Wenger's motivation for saying that Reyes was injured worse than he really was....I'm not sure what that would be other than him initially thinking it was a bad injury. After all, as you mention, Scholes was booked for the incident but not sent off. Please correct me if I'm wrong (cause honestly...I could be) but wouldn't that mean that the ref had already dealt with the incident and that the FA couldn't get involved? I was under the impression that it was only for sending off offenses that the FA reviewed to determine if there was "violent conduct" worthy of a three match ban. Or cases where the ref didn't deal with the situation at all. If I'm wrong on this then I can see why some United folks might think Wenger was trying to milk the situation.

If i could have number 4 red tackle anybody hard, it would be scholes. I don't think there is anything unfair in that.

Lampard.
However, Scholes was used on the left by Sven frequently, simply because England doesn't have a true left winger. His form has suffered with England ever since Sven took charge actually. Not blaming Sven for it all, but that diamond rubbish never worked right anyways either....
Actually, Lampard had already replaced Scholes in their preferred position. So the question is who will replace Scholes on the left. I'd really like to see Bridge tried there again, since England don't have any decent wide players at the moment.

What about playing Beckham on the left and Wright-Phillips on the right? Does anyone have any objections to that?

Isn't Scholes known to be a "bad" tackler? (If that is a word?) Seems to me that there is no secret that every tackle Scholes makes is bad because even though he has played for years he was unable to learn to tackle properly?

Well, Scholes actual preferred position doesn't really exist in the England squad. If England had a left winger, I would have liked to have seen Scholes play just behind Rooney, with Lamps and Gerrard in the middle, Becks on the right and "Player X" on the left. Oh well...

Yes. On the basis of the last Euro I'm not sure Beckham should be playing at all, and if he does, he'd better stick to the right. I don't think his crosses will be as useful on the left.
As for SWP - I'd like to see him do something for the national team first. Its all well and good to make 50 yard runs and put the ball past mediocre keepers like Timmy Howard who play for mediocre third place sides, but its completely different to be able to do that against Northern Ireland and Macedonia.

At this point, I would think that even in a diamond, and not that flat thingy Sven employed, Lamard would have gotten the nod over Scholes up top, relegating Scholes to the left.

If I could get a word in edgewise due to the servers, I was just going to say I was thinking the reverse--try Wright-Philips on the left. I don't think Beckham has the speed to make it worth playing him on the left. W-P might make up for his left-footed deficit with speed. Has this been asked and answered? I haven't heard of SWP getting much time with the senior team.

I disagree. If he had said, I think Scholes is a good player...or I respect his talent, etc....I would've said fine. I would even agree that he is a very good player. But "like"? No...sorry....you don't like the player from your main rival that knocks you out of the F.A. Cup and in the same match hacks down the only player showing any offensive capabilities during that match to the extent that he has to leave.
i simply took his meaning as he "likes" him as a player - i mean, even i "like" certain players for scum like roma and feyenoord - i am not a manU fan and i am not an england fan, but i like to see them do well and i dont like the idea of him quitting the side so soon

This is a good thing for England. Scholes is overrated and has been rubbish for England for a long time. Lampard is a far better player.

Lampard hasn't really impressed either.
Yeah sure he scored a couple of important goals but his general performance was below-par at the EURO's.
The midfield is supposed to be our strength but when we faced a technically superior side the midfield were found wanting.
Its only Ray Parlour

Anyone else see Shaun Wright Phillips goals against Wolves this weekend? It was almost an exact replica of the goal Nicephoras against just described except he started inside his own area. What a player. Sign him up Arsene.
