Who gives a damn about "their origin"

    Are they actually indonesian?

Do you know how many people in US can claim Mexican or Irish origin?
I wouldn't be amazed if it's more than 50% of the population.

Considering Indonesia was a Dutch colony until 1942, many, if not the majority of Indonesian soccer players have parents who were born under Dutch rule, so I imagine most of them can claim eligibility for either Holland or Indonesia.

Not to get off topic, but what percentage of Americans claim Mexican or Irish ancestry? 10.8% for Ireland and 6.5% for Mexico. Source

they are dutch but they can change their nationality to indonesian, only if they never been capped. And i think they prefer to be dutch since it is easier to play around europe.

During the Dutch rule in Indonesia, many Indonesian joined as Dutch Army. Many of them were from Mollucas. After the independence of Indonesia in August 1945, there were few rebellions demanding for Independence. One of them was from Mollucan people that was supported by Dutch. After that war, thousands of Mollucans moved to Netherland as a recoqnition for their service in the Army. So it is not surprising that many Indonesians now are playing in Europe.

A lot of top players are eligible for a number of countries (or would be, if they hadn't been capped). Australia has quite a few top players they would have liked to have got their hooks into, not least of which being Christian Vieri.

The best players generally elect to be capped for the best footballing country they're eligible for. Many French and English 'colonials' have played for the mother country this way (Zidane, anyone?). Kind of a shame for the smaller countries, but what can you do?

True. Better examples would be Vieira (Senegal) or Makelele (Congo?).

And you have the Surinamese contingent in the Dutch squad (Davids, Seedorf, Kluivert), but Suriname gained independence from Holland after those players were born, so I don't see anything wrong or strange about them playing for Holland as they were born Dutch citizens.

So, why doesn't indonesia have good national team ? why don't Indonesian football federation call those players to play for indonesia ? ...by the way Ruud Guulit is also has abit of indonesian blood, he is a Surinam origin and most of Surinam are originaly from Indonesia, were brought there by Colonial ducth long time ago.

'cause I was born in Indonesia to Dutch parents and I'd never consider myself an "Indonesian".

(I do enjoy the food though).

I meant a 'colonial' (note quote marks) in terms of both his parents being Algerian.

For people born with eligibility for duel citizenship, it's effectively a toss-up when trying to determine which country they have the most affinity for. It could be their country of birth, the homeland of their parents, or the place they grew up. I bear no malice to any player regarding his choice, but the reality is that many players will choose to play for the best possible team they can.
