I have Mac OS 8.6 and in order to view movies, some sites require Windows Media Player 9. I cna not get this because the only mac compatible version of this is for mac X. Is there something I can dowload to change the format to quick time or another media player? Is there any way to view these? Thanks.

Dante, what video formats can the Mac not currently handle? Divx? Xvid? Other assorted .avi files?

You can install codecs to watch Divx and Xvid, though I don't remember when you can download them. Quicktime Player plays Divx and Xvid .avi files on my Mac.
Also, freeware programs like mPlayer and VLC handle most formats, though some .wmv files require WMP and video quality isn't always as good as it should be. I'm sure it helps to have something faster than my 3-year old iBook.

I have Windows Media Player 7.1 dowloaded, but whenever I go to the site and click on the movie it has a purple bloob with a x over it. Does this mean Windows Media Player 7.1 won't work?
When I go there an alert box pops up that says,"You do not have the Plug-In needed to view the "text/plain" type information on this page. To get the plug-in now, click View Plug-in page.
When I go to that plug-in page it has all the Windows media players including 7.1 and 9.
I E-mailed the webmaster for the site (I'm trying to view the movies on) and he said,"You need the Windows Media Player to play our files. You can download it at www.downloads.com by searching for the Winodws Media Player."
By the way the site is beyondfootball.com incase you want to try it. Thanks.

What Skip said...
You can download divx codecs from www.divx.com, the codecs are free. I use VLC or MPlayer and between those and Quicktime I can watch any file format.
