Well in Euro 2004 it was greece of course but who will get to the latter stages of the world cup 2006, in 2002 korea did yes shock us altho every1 knows they cheated, turkey also did well in 2002, so who will be the shock team in 2006? i think 2006 could be a good year for an african team to shock people and perhaps make even the semi finals. Well, although Senegal didn't get past the second round, I think THEY were the biggest shocker. A small African nation knocking off defending champs. Wow. As for the '06 shocker, that's tough to call.

Tunisia, with Finland a close second.*

* If either or both of these teams does not make it past qualifying, I reserve the right to edit this post.

Scotland!
lol well they have 2 qualify 1st but i think they are capable of coming 2nd in their group with italy topping it, just a matter of still getting a lot of points 2 get 1 of the 2 auto 2nd places or getting thru a play off.

Yeah it will be tough, but the Italians are going through a transition, alot of players in their team aging and being replaced. Best time to play them.

Norway are very beatable. As long as we win all of our home games anything is possible!

i agree about italy, del piero may not be around anymore, however they still have some great youngens, jus take a look at their under 21 squad.

I think the United States will make a good run, maybe even win the 2006 World Cup (maybe a good run wouldn't be a suprise because they did well in the 2002 World Cup).

Ah. You're right. Good call. I guess the France defeat just sticks in my mind more than any other game.

i know wat u mean, i went to watch wales vs italy euro 2004 qualifier in cardiff in 2002 and wales won 2-1 and played brilliantly, they deserved 2 be in euro 2004, more than russia anyway.

How about talking about who the suprise QUALIFIERS will be? Seems like that would make more sense since teams need to qualify for the WC before they can play in it. And last I check, qualification for Germany 06 isn't over.

No, they didn't. Russia qualified in the end, ergo, they deserved to be in Euro.

well if your confident enough that a team is gonna do well, u dont need 2 think about qualifying.

I have no idea, I just picked them because I think they are due for an explosion.

If I told you which teams were going to be the surprise of WC 2006 you wouldn't be surprised by them when they cause their upsets.

Seriously though I think the so called "established powers" have been caught up by many nations and the overall gulf in class that previous world cups have shown no longer exists.

It will be interesting to see how the European teams perform on their home continent after their generally weak showing in Japorea.
