I've played against a midget before. I think he even scored with a header. Although his kit was a bit to big for him.

Height doesn't really matter that much when you're young because all the kids are smallish some exceptions, who some are scared of, so it works either way, the tall ones are sometime played to either intimidate or not played because they're oafish. But if you're small when you're quite old you'll find that if you aren't strong you will just get pushed off the ball by the more stocky taller players.
with pre teens and early teens, this seems to play a part in it. when kids hit puberty, the ones who develop quicker can have a HUGE advantage over their peers(as in they hit puberty quicker or grew at earlier time than their peers.). i know a guy who's 13 and he's almost six feet tall, taller stronger and faster than pretty much all his peers. but also, he's quite clumsy, not very skillful, and depends mostly on his speed ad size to get by... most players that are like this tend to fade when everybody else catches up development-wise.

another thing to consider is the style of play of your league...
if your playing in a league that has lots of long balls, it's critical to have huge hammer throwers who can win aerial challenges
