Hey all,

This being my final year of school, I'll be starting what Towson calls "the professional year." Basically it's getting our feet wet in the fall semester and student teaching in the spring. The first thing we'll be doing is going out to our professional development schools (the schools in which we'll be student teaching) a week before the start of the school year to help get everything ready. I've asked what kinds of things we'll be doing, and the best response I've been given is "just getting everything ready, sitting in on meetings and stuff like that."

What kinds of things can I expect in that week? What usually happens the week before class in your schools?

1. People scrambling to get their classrooms put-together: Desks placed, stuff on the walls (bulletin boards and whatnot), books gotten out of stroage, rosters finalized, gradebooks started, etc.

2. Lots of pointless meetings.

3. More pointless meetings.

I usually try to go to the grocery store, get some donuts, a couple of diet cokes, a few newspapers and sit in my room and read and post on BigSoccer. May get some books, and create a bulletin board.

The mindless meetings are the worst. The worst. Our first day, Monday, will be nothing but touchy feely crap.

Several of our teachers always suck us into helping them get ready. Free labor and then give us summer hw.

*sigh*
