No, what do you have against Larry Bowa?

I don't hate him. I always thought he'd be better as a manager, but what's stopping him is he's such a red-arse.

What's stopping him is that he has a GM (Ed Wade) who is afraid to make deals.

I disagree. We got Thome, Wagner, Millwood, Bell, and Worrell. Players just don't get better under him or they regress.
Look at the list, Jimmy Rollins, Pat Burrell, Randy Wolf, Marlon Byrd, Kevin Millwood, its only a metter of time till Chase Utley implodes. The guy just doesn't know how to get players through a 162 game season. Everyone is burnt out by the end of may under his "leadership." He's gotta go.

Hang,
I'm surprised you lasted this long before you started the thread. I'm not sure I would say I hate Bowa, but I do think it is time for a change. There is way too much talent on this team to not be winning the NL East by a healthy margin.
Danks,
Who should Wade go after? We can all pipe-dream and wish we could get Johnson, but the truth is it's more than likely not possible.
My main problem is we have to have a better option in the minors than Paul Abbott. If we have so-called untouchable players, why can't they be given a shot?

After last night I just want to never watch baseball again. I can't believe how ********in little we got as the Marlins and Mets stocked up. I'm devistated.
Wings Fan, we have a better option in the bullpen than Abbot in Ryan Madson. Why can't he start? Oh that's right, we need someone for loooooooooooooooooooong relief when Abbot gets pulled in the 3rd or fourth inning.
This is the worst summer of my life.

Gotta get Wade and Bowa out...This team has zero passion. Don't worry, the trade the Phillies made is sure to bolster a penant run.

Okay, I just figured it out. These two new guys take the place of Madson in the bullpen and then we move Madson up to a starter and get rid of Abbot. But we still are not good enough. Damnit.

I've never been a fan of Lowe's at all. He succeeded under Kerrigan's supervision before, but I think he'd wilt under Bowa, like everyone does.
Millwood had two good starts right after the allstar break and then was terrible against the Marlins, I can't figure him out.

Todd Zolecki (Philly Inquirer) seems to imply his job is on the line this road trip.

He's easily the worst manager in Padres history.
And we've had some pretty bad ones.

Worse than Preston Gomez?
Yes, even Preston, though I have a great story about Preston (or at least I think it was Preston managing at the time).
I moved to San Diego as a kid in 1970. The very first Padre game I went to was late in the summer, and the good ol' Pads were already 35 games back. Clay Kirby was on the mound. For 8 innings he threw no-hit ball, but did give up a run on a walk, an error and a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the 8th the Pads were down 1-0. With two outs a Pad got on and Kirby's spot in the order came up. Preston pinch hit for him. All 6,000 fans booed and threw all kinds of ********e on the field. The pinch hitter struck out. In the top of the ninth, the relief pitcher, whose name is lost to the annals of time and to the Elias Sports Bureau, gave up a single on the first pitch to the first batter he faced. End of no hitter. More boos and stuff thrown on the field. Afterwards, Preston said he made his moves based on "the good of the game". I honestly don't remember if the other team was involved in a pennant race or not, though it's possible. Either way, Preston didn't last much longer.
It's all been downhill ever since. :)
P.S. No Padre has ever thrown a no hitter.

The beginning of this article makes me laugh, and cry...
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/baseball/9313260.htm
The Phillies do not have to fire Larry Bowa.
They do not have to fire Ed Wade, either.
There is another, even better way to deal with the state of this baseball team. It's simple, really. All it would take is a little ingenuity from baseball commissioner Bud Selig.
OK, so maybe it's not that simple.
Not to worry, though. The plan will be spelled out here, so all Selig has to do is clip out this column and follow these instructions:
1. Order the Phillies franchise - everyone from the murky ownership group to Dave Montgomery to Wade and Bowa to the players to the batboys - to move into a new ballpark near Washington.
2. Sell the Major League Baseball-owned Montreal Expos franchise to a new owner with the resources and the will to bring a winning program to Philadelphia.
3. Kick back and reflect on a job well done.
It comes down to the fact that firing a manager and a general manager just isn't enough. The Phillies have been playing baseball in this city since Chester Arthur was in the White House and have won precisely one World Series title. One. That's half as many as the Florida Marlins have won in a decade by just showing up every few years.
It's beyond repair. Sure, it would be easier if the Phillies ownership group was willing to do the right thing for the fans and sell the team. But this bunch of bloodless blue bloods held on through decades at Veterans Stadium. There's no way they're getting out now that Citizens Bank Park is open for very lucrative business.
So fine. Let the shadowy figures who own the Phillies stay in baseball. Just put them somewhere else.

Can't find the link right now, but Ken Rosenthal of the Sporting News thinks he'll be sent packing if things don't get better by the end of the road trip.

Well a sweep of the Pads makes it look like Bowa will stick around. And they've faired well against the Dodgers this year, so I am guessing they'll win at least 2. I'll be on a road trip all next week. Surely something terribvle will happen at that point.
I'd also like to thank Ed Wade for having excellent foresight at the trading deadline and treally strengthining our team. We need a solid center fielder, or at least help out there. We trade Ricky Ledee and now Byrd is starting Center field, which wouldn't be alltogether awful if effin Burrell didn't go on the DL and he was starting alongside Doug Glanville. What a terrible 2/3 of an outfield. We need pitching. We get none, Millwood goes down injured in the second inning last night. Terrific. I wanna vomit.

Burrell's out for the year. Hopefully, the Collier guy continues to hit, because Glanville is not someone I would like to see starting a playoff game.
