Nope .. MAxi Lopez ain't in the squad ... and since you are a fan, today River received an offer of $6 million for Maxi from Ukraine, but won't let him go for that amount.
Bielsa took the Olympic squad to Copa America. Aside from the goalie, which will be Lux, two players will fill in the positions of Sorin and Zanetti ... and those will probably be Coloccini and Clemente Rodriguez, both of whom played minutes in Copa America as subs.
Argentina is taking this tourny seriously ... it is the only Int'l tourny they have never won and were really close at Atlanta '96. Ever since it has become their obsession.
Their 3 over 23 are Ayala, Heinze and Kily Gonzales.

Thanks! :) Too bad he's not on the squad... I really hope he doesn't go to the Ukraine, I like him as part of River. Lux is good as a goalie. I hope Argentina does well! I'll definitely be watching the games!

I would had liked to see him as well ... problem I see with Maxi is he is more of a player for counter attacks ... to receive the ball far up there by himself, hold the ball and create the space for the #9 to appear.
Bielsas's style of play is one of constant control of the ball ... ideally possesion in the opponents half ... this in turn gives you teams that are constantly defending against Argentina ... and in that scheme, Maxi's strengths are not the ideal.
I would have him in the team as a sub for sure. You never know the day an opposing team can control you and push you back ... as in the Olympics tend to be teams like Ghana ... or Nigeria in the past.

first of all,
i love argentina.
I watched all the games of copa and enjoyed what i saw.
at first i was disappointed since aimar wasn't there, but i liked to see the other players get a chance to star.
but come on, heinze does a fu@#ing beckham on the penalty kick! could bielsa have let ayala kick or anyone else in that spot?
yeah, d'alessandro missed too, but if the kicker guessed the other way, it was going in. I guess it's that man. united connection that did it. devil bastards!
go valencia!
go argentina!

I am surprised that Wilfredo Caballero is on the squad. He has potential, but I am not sure he is that good yet. Lux should definitely start. (And I say that as a Boca fan).
Isn't it amazing that Argentina finished second in Copa America with basically their sub23 olympic team? :D

No, they are all 23 and under, except for Ayala, Heinze and Kili. And that is why Pato isn't in there. He is over 23.

Why isn't Cavenaghi going to the Olympics? He is much better than Figueroa, IMO.

Agree with you ... afterall he was at the youth WC with Argentina ...
What happens with him is the same reason why Heinze, and not Samuel, is going to both CA and Olympics ... He needs to adapt to his new club in Moscow, it is his first move abroad.
You will see him in action soon IMO ... once he has settled in. He would/should have been the starting #9 at CA.

After watching the CA finals, this Argentine Olympic team (ie U23 + 3 overage players) will be very strong in the upcoming Athens Olympics.
Even though I am an Australian supporter, this Argentine team would be my favourite for the gold medal, unless they self-destruct.
Cheers.

Call it however you want ...
Argentina is bringing to the Olympics 15 players from CA ... three of which are over 23 (Ayala, Heinze and Kily). The other twelve players are all U-23.
It is unfortunate for you that a mostly U-23 team beat the Colombian CA squad 3-0 ... but most importantly, over run them with posesion, ball control and chances of scoring. Colombia had 1 shot on goal, when the score was 3-0 already .. talk about demolition. Or, how many call it ... Colombia was OWNED.
Now, you don't want to talk about Colombia in this thread bud ... it is about the Argentinian Olympic team, 90% of which was at CA.
Are you gonna watch Olympic football? :D

wow must i remind you that 7 of colombias players were u-20!!!
and no out of those 12 players 7 are over 23 i dont know if argentina is going to get fined or what but this was noted before in bielsas roster he gave the whole list of players from the copa america and the majority were over 23
colombia had a c team argentina a A team whether they play for the u-23 or not you purposely left out the facts of the match it shows your amazing bias
colombia was not owned colombia dominated but failed to attack ...
