The latest rumor for Szetela going to the MetroStars has Magee going to Columbus and another Eastern team and the Crew making a trade for another player to clear cap space. Unfortunately, the post does not mention if the latest rumor has the other player heading to/from the Crew (i.e. NE is the only remaining Eastern team with salary cap problems - especially if they want to sign Steve Howey. They may be sending another player to the crew. On the other hand, the Crew may be wanting to clear salary cap space to (1) make room for Magee's salary - not that it is much and (2) clear big salary cap for a non-MLS signing (i.e. Sanneh). With the crew already saying that they plan to bring back Stern John in 2005, they may want to move one of their existing forwards (Buddle, Cunningham) to allow Magee to start this year and allow John to start next year (Magee would then platoon with Buddle or Cunningham).
The questions of the day are:
1) If this far-fetched rumor has a grain of truth about it, could DCU be after one of these Crew forwards (I thought that there was a Rimando for Buddle rumor earlier this year)? Based on need, Buddle fits DCU's needs more than Cunningham. Buddle looked out of it during this weekend's Colorado game - I am not sure if he is in the doghouse of Andrulis. Cunningham would be the bigger salary hit ($191K) than Buddle ($78K).
2) Even if DCU wanted to trade for Buddle, what could they offer?

We have nothing to offer but a bunch of magic beans ............ and even THAT is a stretch.

I believe that Magic Beans was the 3rd sub that Nowak could have used in the Dallas game.

I believe Buddle has been injuried more this year then he's played. Buddle is not a hustler (at least not with Columbus), but I'm not sure that he and Andrulis see eye to eye on things.

Buddle wouldn't really clear any cap room for us...
Cunningham on the otherhand...

Columbus already has allocations I believe. Since Sanneh is a free transfer, they could use an allocation to acquire him and defray his cap expenses. While I could see us being interested in Szetela (he'll be able to contribute quickest in MLS as an outside mid), I don't see what we have that Columbus would be interested in.

If only he were a lot shorter and got a lot of cards he'd be perfect for us.

Let's give them Namoff, hopefully before everyone stops believing he's national team material.
Buddle's ceiling is much higher than Sir Namoff

A back-line of Petke, Prideaux, and EZ looks very appetizing to other team's forwards.

No, we don't have the beans themselves. We have the permission to go out and get a special magic bean allocation. Problem is, the league won't give us cap relief to go out and get them. So we ain't got no beans :(

No, there is a special magic bean lottery. The commissioner will reach into a 16-bean salad to select the winning bean. That bean will be a Metro bean (unless it's Polish in which case it goes to Columbus). Our winning bean would be a "has-bean."

United has cap space, note point (2) in the first post (2) clear big salary cap for a non-MLS signing (i.e. Sanneh). Are you implying that Bean Olsen is all washed up?

You do realize Namoff is one of the best bargains in the league don't you? Find another defender only getting paid $30K who has been consistent and started a majority of his teams games. Don't bother looking - you won't find any.

Don't bother JH6, that dude has had a big problem with Namoff from the git go..
Can't figure it out myself, sorta reminds me of the good ol' days of Sormun's Convey bashing..
Wonder what he thinks of Sir Bobby playing in Europe?
