The first two are the same.....the name changed with the sponsorship about two years ago. The Carling Cup is a league cup that all League teams (Premiership, Championship, Division 1 and Division 2) are eligible for. Whearas the FA Cup includes teams all the way down the FA spectrum. The Community Shield is a one match, pre season game between the FA Cup winner and the Premiership champion.

The Carling Cup & The Worthington Cup are the same, but with different sponsors. The original non-sponsored name is The Football League Cup. It is contested by the 92 members of The FA Premier League and The Football League. The winners gain entry to the UEFA Cup. The FA Community Shield (previously Chairty Shield) is the 'traditional curtain raiser' (Copyright The Media) to the season played between the winners of the FA Premier League and the FA Cup (should a team have won both, then the club second in the League takes part). It is currently played at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. Click here for more (http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/TheFACommunityShield/).
