I can not say that this is encouraging news when you think about how poorly our defense plays without Nelsen.

Jesus...if it's a sports hernia, given the luck the team's had with players being treated for that, he should be able to play again in about 2 years or so.
I hope to gods Nelsen's alright.

The team's parade of tryouts continued with three invitees: Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Addae Rique, who has been playing for the St. Louis Steamers in the Major Indoor Soccer League; defender Kevin Taylor, a 2004 third-round draft pick by Colorado; and forward Uche Chinyere, a Jamaican-based Nigerian. However, "there were no answers there," Payne said. "We'll keep looking."
It's too bad that Kevin Taylor didn't work out. He impressed at the combine and he's something on the order of 6-5.

I think I feel pretty safe in saying that with Nelsen out for a good deal of time, we are cooked.. This team has given up buttloads of goals without him in the lineup and it's actually embarrassing how poor our defense plays without him..
Some of these players (Petke, Prideaux, Stokes et al) need to sack it up and start playing well.. I think in the back of their minds they always feel that Nellie is there to bail them out.. Well, it looks pretty ominous that Nellie won't be back any time soon, if at all for the rest of the season..
This is awful news and this will indeed sink our team if the worst case scenario presents itself...

Well, we have two weeks until the next game. I think at least some of these players will get better by the next game.

So the Sports Hernia list is Convey, Q1, Nellie, who else?
Maybe there's some investigative reporting to be done here.

Life next year w/o Nelsen will be pretty difficult and we are seeing just how difficult now. Perhaps this injury will slow the Euro interest in him and allow DCU to hang on to him, is that a silver lining to all this? I think most people would just like to see him healthy for the rest of this season and then let the chips fall where they may, here's a great player that deserves the best the game has to offer him whether it's in DC or not.

Tough news about Nelsen. Let's all hope that the medical reports today are good (ie: his season isn't over). I thought it was interesting that Goff put in print what many of us have been saying: only Nelsen and Namoff have had quality seasons out of our backliners.
As for the trialists, that's an interesting mix. I suspect we can see a regular revolving door the next week. Our roster is depleted so we need practice bodies. We have 2 weeks to bring guys in and take a look.

Trialists brought in on a whim with no real goal, aim or direction, and a player with a potential sports hernia.
We've seen both of these a few too many times this year already, and probably will some more.

First off, is it me or is Goff pumping out articles left and right. Kudos to him (I know its been said before, but it bears repeating).
This sucks about Nellie, I can't help but think that this may really slow down interest from abroad, but as its been said, he is going to go sometime, so we better prepare. We are just getting slammed with injuries lately, not good. We really needed this break when it came. Also, I can't rem, ember, when does Nellies contract end? Also how hard will the league try to keep him here? Any thoughts.

I've raised this before, but Nelsen's current woes again demand some type of accounting for DCU's training. Why is DCU apparently leading the league in muscle pulls, strains, tears, etc. Does Nowak's pressure system wear the players out? Are the training facilities worthless (hanging curve -- I know the auxiliary field can resemble a WWI battlefield)? Or does the trainer just not know what to do? Inquiring minds need answers because the injury situation will sink this team.

get him a ********in truss, lace it up tight, shoot him up with cortosone and trot him out. let him recover on some deep-pocket euro team's nickle!! even trundled up like a goose he's better than most defenders in the league, not to mention our bench.

Brought in on a whim? Not so sure that's accurate. Taylor for instance would have been seen by Kasper and Novak at the combine--so I see that as revealing. They asked "who did we see at the combine that is now free (ie: no contract obligations) that might prove useful?" It also tells me that Soehm (and maybe Novak) have a hankering for very tall interior defenders who can dominate the airspace--that Curtin, Bocanegra and Co. weren't just coincidences but a deliberate interest and bias in big central defenders.
As for Chinyere and Rique, for months (well, years maybe), some folks here have been arguing DCU needs to look at Carribean talent more--it's cheaper, skilled, etc.

Um, Mr. Payne, get a new medical staff. A rash of injuries happens, but a pox like this is unnatural.

From what I have seen the Metrostars, NE, LA, and Colorado have had as many injuries as we have (or pretty close). I think it has to do with small rosters and busy schedules. Didn't we fire the trainer last year and bring in a new one this year?
Hope Nellie gets good news today and will be back at them on 8/7.
