I just got my first DVD burner - a Sony DRU700A Dual-Layer dual-format burner. Any suggestions on good authoring software? It came with Nero for burning, but what about creating the image to burn (menus, etc)?

I bought a Hauppage PVR card for my PC. It came bundled with Ulead's software. I've been pretty happy with it. I've used it to edit/burn a couple hundred soccer games over the last few months on the Sony DRU500A drive in my PC.

There are a couple of rough edges, and I had to learn a couple things the hard way. Plus there's some customization options that are only in the commercial version.

All in all, though, it's worked quite well for me.

Hama is right. I bought my burner for data archiving. I have around 500 CDs full of soccer photos from the last three years. I was able to consolidate that onto just under 60 DVDs - which are more manageable.

I bought the video capture card because of all the problems I had experienced last year taping games. And since I'm out of town most weekends, I tape games off of DirectKick to watch when I get home. The capture card allowed me to turn my hard drive into a very, very, big VCR. I'm just burning for archival reasons, but I don't really watch a lot of it.

Definitely something to consider. Though namebrand 4x Single Layer blanks are down to 80 cents.

The only Dual-Layer media I've seen has come bundled 1 DL blank with 9 SL blanks.
