Sorry if this has been mentioned earlier but I was just curious as to where Alegria has gone. Is he still in the Nova/DC area or back in Peru?

Didn't we ask similar questions about Chino when he was actually on the team?

I'm not sure. Seems like the first place to check would be Charlston's roster. :)

Sadly, with all the injuries and suspesnions and various reasons the club has been shorthanded, United would have been better off with Chino on the books than cutting him.

Out of shape or no, slow or no, he wouldn't have been as out of place as once GR Cannon. And, at least he'd have known the boys and been able to step on the field and not wet the bed.

Further, by actually having all our roster spots filled, the club could stash some of the guys who are out for the year on IR and get some roster relief. Right now, the club can't do that and, after yesterday, I doubt many would argue that United needs as many able bodies as it can get.

I agree that there have been a number of games where chino could have helped. last night's was just one. dc looked like high school ball out there. he has a lot more skill than a number of the players on the team. did novak just not like him? too bad, we lost a good player.

On Saturday night's team we could have added Chino Alegria, Lazo Alavanja and Thor Lee and that would have been a serious upgrade in talent.

Post corrected.

I don't understand why so many are focused on this. There's no point in putting them on IR until we have bodies to fill their spots.
They'll count against the cap whether they're on the roster or on IR.
We don't need their roster spots until we have players to replace them.

I believe he showed up to training camp out of shape, and Nowak cut him to set an example.

The last I heard (a few months ago, on another DCU thread) Chino was playing with the Northern Virginia Royals - the same team as GR Cannon, who was called up (to be an emergency sub for the Dallas match) last Saturday. Whether he's still with them or not, I don't know.

I haven't really followed the Royals that closely, but if we're going to keep recruiting their field players as subs, I guess I should.

Yeah, I thought Reyes was amazing... Even if he wasn't in top form, pretty much anyone's better than Stokes.

If anything Chino played with a lot of heart and he loved United. That's more than can be said about most of the players out there on saturday.

Sorry, this is just wrong. I think you're confusing ineptitude with a lack of heart. We fielded a hugely inexperienced team on Saturday. That doesn't mean they lack heart.

I watched Chino for years. He was about as lazy a player as we've had on our roster. He had some nice skill, but he was typically out of shape, and when he was beaten to a ball (which was fairly often) he'd commit some stupid foul. Having heart would mean that he'd have shown up on time and in condition every year. He didn't do that.
