Some people may have seen these, some not. I suscribe to the free email journals sent out and decided to check the site if they had anything new and came across these articles. I've seen a couple posts recently about increasing speed so I felt I should share both of these.

This is an article about "Soccer Speed Training" http://www.sportspecific.com/public/308.cfm?sd=51. It's a 3 week pre-season training program to increase your speed (but i'm sure you could extend the program longer if needed).

And this article is about "Speed and Power Tests" http://www.sportspecific.com/public/334.cfm?sd=51. It's not necessarily soccer specific as this site isn't SOCCER specific, but it would probably work for any sport.

There's also an "exclusive 25 page speed training case study which includes weight training and plyometrics" that you can download here, http://www.sportspecific.com/public/321.cfm?sd=51.

They're many more articles on the site that are pretty useful (ie: improving kicking power) and if I wasn't such a cheap skate i'd probably have subscribed to the site long ago :p, but I find the free articles sufficient :).

I started doing the speed-training program in the first article. I've done two session and oh my god the speed endurance part is horrible. It was probably the hardest training session in my whole life, the scorching sun didn't help either. I really thought I was in better shape, guess not. My aerobic base that I did in the winter seems to have disappeared.

So have you done 2 weeks or... better yet, have you noticed a difference in your fitness yet? I haven't tried these sessions specifically but i've done some similar sessions like the speed endurance one a while back and it did seem to help me.

Today I was practicing with the ball on my own and some little kids asked me if I was the fastest guy on my team whereas actually I'm one of the slowest. So maybe it's working already ;)
