There was nothing pretty about this game, but we got the job done and if we'd kicked straighter, would have had an even bigger percentage booster then we eventually got. Carlton are a pretty ordinary side, so anything less then a 50 point win would have been disappointing for us. Bartel continues to impress in the midfield, Corey was back to his best form, Wojcinski on the wing has risen his game to another level, Ablett and Chapman were good again today, Harley owned centre half back and totally destroyed Lance "Fatso" Whitnall, while Scarlett beat Fevola and scored a goal as well which was great. :D
I don't have much to add to that, but I'll try...
Scarlett held Brendan Fevola to 3.2, all of which was in the second half. And the goal that Scarlett scored pretty much killed off Carlton in the third term. After that, it was one-way traffic that made the final score as big as it was.
If Ben Graham could only kick the ball straight. I mean, he wasn't the only one, but he was a glaring example.
James Bartel didn't play as well as he had in past weeks, but good to see Joel Corey and David Wojcinski lift as they did.
Kent Kingsley kicked some key goals, as did Paul Chapman, who is fast becoming one of the better small crumbing forwards in the AFL.
And Gary Ablett Jr.... wow. Special talent, with or without his famous lineage.
All in all, it's a great and very promising sign for September that you can still pound an opponent into submission when you aren't able to bring your "A" game (and not just having to do with our goal-kicking form). That's a sure sign of a quality and championship-calibre team.
