Before somebody else starts a stoopid thread asking "what's up with all those yellow band that MLS'ers are wearing on their wrists...what the heck are they?"
www.wearyellow.com
There are about half a dozen of us on my team that wear yellow. Props to Adu, Eskandarian, Dempsy and others that are helping the cause. This is one bandwagon that I wouldn't mind seeing everybody jumping on.

I like the idea of the bands but the fact that nike is involved kind of pisses me off, it really limits the people who can wear them to nike players only, but when has exploiting people ever bothered nike in the past?

The bands only say "livestrong" and nothing else, so they're not "branded". They're to support the Lance Armstrong Foundation. If you look at the Tour de France a lot of riders are wearing them as well, and some of those are most definitely not sponsored by Nike like Lance is. So it shouldn't matter if a player in MSL is sponsored by Nike in order to wear the yellow band, that's just dumb.

Its a good cause, but not any better than a million other causes, I give plenty of money to charity and wouldn't feel the need to show off to others. I am an atheist but Sermon on the mount people? These celebrities are promoting ordinary people to join them and give more which is great but what would be the point of ordinary people wearing these bands other than to show off? Sorry if I seem like I am missing the point, cancer causes are a great cause, I am not against that, but the whole yellow band thing?

Well, it does seem to have come out about the same time as Armstrong's attempt to win 6 straight TdF races. But, face it, he has accepted the fact that he can use his celebrity to help others much in the way Christopher Reeve can with paralysis.

The primary reason is to help raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation:

As for why it is specifically a yellow band, I don't know. Maybe because it is a simple, durable product to make that can be sold cheaply. I don't know if they produced them, but Nike does have access to rubber and probably the necessary manufacturing equipment.

My guess is that with packaging the overall cost of these is about a nickel. That would mean approximately 95 cents of pure profit for the LAF.
Some of you may recall that NIKE sold rubber bands with the nike logo around the same time that Kevin Garnett and other b-ballers made it fashionable to wear regular old brown rubber bands. NIKE attempted to turn them into a fashion accessory....and then proceeded with the hiposuction process.....rendering rubber bands worn as wrist acessories too cool to be cool anymore. So obviously NIKE has the tooling available to produce such a product and the initial investment (by NIKE) is taken care of. Pure profit for the LAF and instead of simply donating $1 people feel as if they are supporting a cause and get something to show for their money. So it makes sense.
For me...I wear yellow because it is a constant reminder taht Lance has recovered from cancer. It keeps me motivated to get up whenever I fall. Not bad for a buck!

Thanks for all the links. I did see the people who work in my local nike store wearing them. But they didn't have any for sale. I think they should get them over here in the UK its for a good cause!!

First of all because its cheap, but I think that the reason it's yellow is because thats the color the leading person gets in le tour de france. Not a fact though, for those that care, you can get em on ebay, although I don't like the idea of it becoming a product rather than a thought, if you know what I mean.
