who else doesn't like how high school rules? like for example, if you get two yellows, you can't go back in the game, but some one goes in for you, so teh game stays 11v.11. also shinguards are supposed to be 2 inches above the shoe, which seems pretty low. also, this year teams arent allowed to start playing with the ball until august 16th because playing with the ball before that date is considered an advantage.... are these rules nationwide or only in california??? i seriously think the people who made these know nothing or very little about soccer....

I'm gonna tell you something most adults won't: get over it. There are rules (sometimes made by people who don not give a rats arse about what they are making rules about ... welcome to America.

Again, get over it. But, with that said, who can regulate you getting together with some of your buddies at a local pitch? Make the calls abd get your team together and play. If it is a 'pick up game' no one can give you any *edit* shizzle *edit*. (can't believe you can't even say 's h i t e' ... what is censorship coming to when you can't even curse like a Brit)

Bottom line: you can complain and do nothing or you can be proactive. Your choice. That said, I play at a regular 'pick up game' with some if the guys who play varsity where I coach one of the middle school teams.

Oh yeah, about the shin guard rule:
Unless you are either really small or incredibly large for your age, most shin guards will cover most of your shin - even if they must me two inches from the top of your boot (the shortest shin guard in Eurosport is 6 in.). If you think your pads ride too low, get longer ones.

I understand being 15-18 is all about rebelling and challenging the staus quo, but being an adult is about playing by the rules until you can change them. The sooner you realize that, the better off on the road to being an adult you will be.

The rules do sound stupid to me and i'm from Britain. However, you can easily get around the 'no kicking the ball with coach' by getting together and your captain being in charge. The coach could tell him before hand what should be done.I don't know if this is allowed but you would think whoever was in charge of the league would want the highest possible standard of football to be played, not banning people kicking a ball.

does anyone else have to play with the three whistle system meaning there are thre refs instead of one ref and two linesmen? I think this system blows.

We play with the basic 2 Linesman and 1 Ref. Anyone else got to small of a field? Mine is seperate from the Football(american sport) but its the same size it seams...doesn't really make any sense

most states as far as I know use the two man system for high school varsity. what is a real pain is doind JV by yourself, no AR's to help. I Ref high school in CT before that I was coaching high school. If i recall in CT coaches can start practicing 14 days before the 1st game of the season. The rules say you can not tell your captains what to do or work on over the summer. Shin guards are a nessessary evil and they should cover the shin..its gotten so bad in highschool most coaches carry a few extra pairs just in case one of their knucklehead players decide to play with kiddie size guards or even trim adult size. I told one kid to get a new pair, they were about 5 inches long and at the most 3 inches wide,,,the kid must have been 6'1. I always get the same response,,"the ref last game let me use them!".
THe soft yellow as we call it is a joke....two yellows should put u on the bench and give the other team an advantage. actually it puts fresh legs on the field.
Oh ya,,,,as for soccer being a stupid american thing,,,,check again,,,the term soccer came from England.....loads of threads on big soccer about what it stands for..etc..etc

yeah i think some of the rules are dumb. the 2 yellow card rule. shinguard rule. although they hardly enforced it when i played. the biggest thing i hate is how long games last. let them play 90 minutes, the kids can play another 10 minutes.

My manager just normally subs me once i get booked, which really annoys me, it's not compulsory in our game though, just safer to do before the player gets banned.
It's the worst feelin when you see the ref give you a yellow like 9 mins into the game because you know when the ball goes out your off unless you calm down or get your act together real quick.

I must say...you have some strange rulls over there, but rull thet says you can't star traning until 15 day before season kick off, is to dumb, it's impossible to reach a reasonably form in 15 days, the first matches must be vary messy!

Not really because most players at this level still play all year around for their respective club teams and what not.

its called soccer because it comes from the real word for soccer asSOCiation football. they call gridiron football because it has some of the same rules ( well not really" but theey are both on rectangular fields of grass with eleven a side and starts off by kicking
