Anyone seen one of these baby's yet? I'm buying one soon as it comes out. It's a beauty.

Just Google 2005 Mustang and check it out.

It looks damn good.

I'd be apprehensive about getting it in the first model year unless you work on them + you know a sportier model & convertible will be out for 2006... I don't know if Ford's releasing the convertible in the same model year. IMO, Ford can be dodgy with first year releases. But... if you can get your hands on a GT-R, then go for it. V-8, 440 HP and redlines at 7K RPM! I guess they're using this prototype for the SVT and Shelby models. Check out the pics and spec sheet here:

Your insurance will be through the roof on these....

Between this and the introduction of the new Supra, I'm having second thoughts on the Z this winter, and considering waiting for the next Z upgrade.

If you can find the Car and Driver write up on it, they've tested it over a million miles here and in Europe. $25,000 for a base GT pushing 300 hp is in my ballpark. I was always a fastback fan, and the styling on this car is beautiful in my book. http://www.fordvehicles.com/2005mustang/home.asp?bhcp=1

I can't wait....

I too started salivating over the new Stang when it was officially unveiled a while back. *drool* I even told some folks that it was a serious contender for what FearM9 wanted to do with his spare $ when his '01 Focus was paid off this fall. I'm a Ford guy. Owned an '88 GT that I wrecked my junior year of HS. Always liked their trucks. Bought a 2001 Focus. Bought a 2003 Escape for my 31st birthday. I think the Stang would make an awesome addition to my stable. But alas, I don't "need" a Stang like I do my Escape. *sigh* Guess I'll just have to wait.

CHICO--from what I've heard and read from Ford folks is that the Stang is gonna be selling for a premium when it's first rolled out this fall. So no bargaining whatsover and I wouldn't be suprised if you have to wait for a bit to get your hands on one.

For some odd reason I thought you owned a BMW?

No, I work at BMW :p

I'm a Ford guy though. Right now I have a 97 TBird 4.6 litre V-8. I'm in no hurry to buy the Stang cause I don't really want to take delivery over the winter, so I'll wait till next Spring when the prices stabalize a bit. But then again once I see one live and in color I might just lose it and go for it. :D

I saw the new Mustang a couple of months back at an autoshow. It was definitely drawing a crowd. Not my cup of tea though, that's for certain. At least they finally updated that old chassis.

Has anyone seen a Ford GT in person? now that is definitely a Ford I would own if I defecated money LOL

Someone mentioned waiting for the Supra? not gonna happen, at least for a while. As a matter of fact, Toyota recently announced that they're finally canning the Celica and the MR2. So it looks like Toyota will be even more blander in the future. Considering that the last gen Supra came out 10 years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot how to make a performance car...

I know. But Toyota can still make Sports Cars. What's going on right now is that they're trying to prevent themselves from product cannibalism (ala Ford/Lincoln/Mercury). They still have a few convertibles. And really... couldn't Scion Tc stand for "Toyota Celica". They're scrapping it, but it's not as if they don't have a replacement for it. They're redifining their product line-up. Celica's and MR2's were getting hammered in the insurance industry... their symbols were as high as Mercedes and BMW's. But check this out:

http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/new/Volta.jpg

About 2 years ago, there was a custom Celica that came out. It was basically like a hybrid between the Celica and the then 1 yr. old Altezza/IS 300 since it had the same E-shift system and a tweaked I6 engine, Toyota racing stock wheels, suspension and brakes, and a neat wing. I didn't like the Celica's, but that one actually looked pretty good. So... the new Supra was rumored to be on the same platform as the IS 300. Even more interesting... Toyota knows that they need a beefed up version of the IS 300 to compete, hence, the introduction of the IS 430 with a 300+ HP engine. They were also considering different variations of it - with a coupe and convertible option.

Check out a few preliminary concept spec designs for the Supra and the rumored "supercar". The Supra, which was **supposed** to be out as a 2004 model, would have had: 4.5L V-8 and 3.5 V6 and built on the IS 300 platform and was expected to be a direct rival to the 350Z. But who knows? With the RX-8 at a base of 28K and Z at a base of 27... IMO, Toyota $hit themselves since they probably planned on starting at a higher cost.

One things for certain - they will have a sports car in a few years. Maybe they'll just make a "supercar" like Honda did with the NSX... that's what they're also talking about doing.

I'm not happy with the '05 body style. The front of it screams of one of the Impala models. It just doesn't look right. It might grow on me, but I doubt it.

Course, in the end, I just bought an '04 Mustang 2 weeks ago, so I've got mine for a while. :)

Not really related, but I was tickled pink that I could recognize a few characters in that Japanese Supra image Alex posted. (Learning the ひらがな so when I try to learn Japanese I won't be forced to use romanji.)

And, related this time, I like the new 'Stang. I'm sure my father-in-law will buy one (he's got two late-model Mustangs already).

I drove the 645csi at a Ride and Drive BMW puts on for us abouth 3 months ago. Holy Sh!t  What a car!! Too bad I don't have an extra 80 grand sitting around.

As far as the 05 Stang goes, I know alot of people see the concept pics and assume that's the 05. It's not. The GT in it's full glory can be found here.

http://www.fordvehicles.com/2005mustang/home.asp?bhcp=1

And you know Ed, I was looking at the SVT's figuring I could get a good deal (and I can, they're giving the 04's away) but when I went to the dealership I fell head over heals for the 05.

Car and Driver gave it a great write-up, check it out....
