I walked in halfway through the story this evening, saw councilwoman Love and Mayor Anderson talking about the new plans for the stadium.....but I didn't hear exactly where it was going to be located. I'm guessing they've already got the place picked out?
Anyone see this report? I checked their website, but nothing.

i wonder where that "One central, large location in the central business district...." is. honestly i cannot picture a peice of land large enough to put a 20k seat sss. seriously, where by the gateway? where in the CBD? this is really pumping me up though, if they already have a spot picked out, or atleast a couple specific locations. this means they are really moving forward with the plan and are serious. i hope the citizens of this county are also pumped up. i was surprised about the most soccer players and youth participants per capita statement. thats pretty cool. big smack in the face for all those tards you said utah is not a soccer state, they can shove it now.

Hey, UP---consider this a warning since you can't get PM's currently.
Lay off the "tard" talk, okay? Thanks.

I think you could put it west of the gateway and I-15, don't know what you would do about the railroad tracks though

ya that whole area is run down industrial crap. major revitalization would have to occur. i soccer stadium would be good for the economy in the area though. traffic, commercial areas, maybe new apartment complexes.

"The team is expected to play its first two seasons at the venue on the University of Utah campus."
I assume SLC will move to new stadium after 2 seasons.

You'd have to knock down that temple that's in the way but I think it might work. Perhaps you'd also need the area to the east where the administration buildings are also.:)
I actually can't think of an area in downtown that would be large enough without clearing out something..Perhaps the west side somewhere..

Ok so itspretty sad that a New Yorker knows the two locations and local people dont. heck all I did was do some reading on these forums like 2 days ago. man if I was out there I would have already visited both sites by now. ok thats enough smuggness, but congrats guys, no go where I tell ya and you should see the locations
one is the future home of a city built soccer complex. I guess the city or state already put a 15 million dollar bond into this or something, but they have enough room to add in a stadium in some corner of the site.
it is at the edge of the city. I read it described as lying between 215 and redwood road. or maybe it was between 15 and redwood road. regardless it is all the way at the border with davis county wich is the northern border of SLC propper. there is a ton of development north of the city, but IIRC it does get kinda sparce for a ways till you get closer to ogden
The downtown location wich apparently is just listed as ideal because well the owner of the land is likely not interested in selling it. Well its location as I read is in the 500 south, west of the courthouse, and I think between Temple Stree or Main street
Now I have only been to SCL once, and it was for the olympics, so I spent most of my time out in Park City, But I did go downtown a few nights and well I parked on what I now assume was the construction site of the courthouse. I know the builder was "big johnson" construction wich cought my sophmoric sense of humor big time. So IIRC I parked on the NE corner of what is now the courthouse, and walked west towards some bars. I am pretty sure that on 400 wich is what I walked on and main there is a bar with a tatoo place next to it. I honestly dont think therw was much further south on main, so this does fit my foggy memory.
as far as the area between 15, and 215 bordering redwood, I just remember that part of the road north to orem as being industrial, and well as you got closer to the lake it was just a foreign landscape to a New Yorker like me. I couldnt imagine socer fields there, but apparently there is a soccer complex going in that area somewhere and it is already paid for and aproved my city county and state.
that is all I know
If there is a local to clarify what I wrote that would likely help the people a bit.

Orem is south of Salt Lake, the courthouse was done before the Olympics, and the huge new Soccer Complex is about 2200 North, in open land by the Airport and Great Salt Lake.
There vacant land you're thinking of is owend by Earl Holding (Owner of the Little America hotels, and, the Grand America in Salt Lake), he will not part with it most likely. However, I believe there are other possible areas downtown that could be made into a stadium...it'd just take some demolition etc.
Checketts has met with both the Salt Lake City, and Salt Lake County, Councils about a stadium.

If I remember some of this right count yourselves lucky.
The Blitzz were going to build off of Redwood Road at one time. The major obstical was the sewer lines that would have to brought under Redwood Road. The cost of doing this and shutting down Redwood to do it were problems. Redwood road is a major N-S route on the westside.
Then 9-11 prompted the original owner to sell and look after his money making pursuits.
The downtown plot would be great. I suggested it some time ago. It seems that it is owned by Earl Holdings. Search your back issues of SI for some insight into his dealings with the Olympic Comm. He owns the Little America and Grand America just south of the the area in question. If he let it go for less than a billion I'd be surprised. Please surprise me.

well the government has the capability to do terrible things to land owners if they need a parvel of land for some governmental purpose, or for civic gain. See I am not excatly sure about your laws specificly, but I know a town or city can condemn a piece of land rendering it unusable. then they can have an independent assessor set a value for the land. and I assure you the value is lower than the market will bare. then the town or city buys the ladn at "fair market value" as given by the assessor. and there is nothing at all that the origonal land owner can do about it.
this is the tool the government uses to build highways, and railroads.
but well I doubt it would happen. then again the city does seem to be behind this lol

what they should really do is demolish some of that terrible run down industrial area west of the gateway and build it there. that could do wonders to the economy in the area as well as provide new jobs and a new reason to go downtown. of course SLC likes its hobos and bums down there (*cough*libertypark*cough*). i do remember that location by the courthouse and i can only imagine the price tag holdings would put on that sucker. but seriously i would think of just west of the gateway, get rid of some of that industrial garbage.
