ALLRIGHT THIS IS AWESOME! I was a KC Wizards fan, but that might change next season! I've always felt more of a fan to MLS as a whole than to the Wizards as an individual team. I planned on picking a new expansion team as my favorite over the next couple years, and Utah may be it. I hate Chivas USA or whatever they're going to be called already. So Salt Lake City looks like it will be my team. Just depends on the indenitiy of the team comes out. So far I like it, Though! :D

Cool.
Do you know if they've decided on a name yet?
Bergin mentioned at his website that "Boom" and "Shakers" were the prime contenders.

I sincerely hope this is a joke. According to this (http://166.70.44.66/2004/Jul/07132004/sports/183082.asp) article in the SL Tribune, no name has yet been chosen.
Cool.

I dunno. It's Field Turf, but that's a very handsome stadium. Half capacity (20k+) should look impressive in there. Here's hoping SLC can average 15k for the first season.

if it makes you feel any better, I did a search on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website, and found nothing connecting MLS, Utah, Salt Lake, Salt Lake City, David W. Checketts or Sports Capital Partners to an MLS team in Salt Lake City.
Which says to me that a name has indeed NOT been picked yet, including "Boom" or "Shakers".
With the MLS changing San Jose to Earthquakes and Dallas soon becoming FC Dallas, I would be surprised if Utah came in next year with a 1996-ish name.

Field Turf or no, the stadium itself is certainly situated in a beautiful setting.
Anyone know what the field dimensions for soccer are?

Well just because a patent or trademark isn't registered yet doesn't mean they haven't picked something. I'll venture to say they may have a brief period of fan input. And for the record I am against SLC getting a team this round. There are for more deserving cities, but as usual, $$$ talks.

If they money's talking, they're deserving.

No, it pretty much means they haven't picked anything... yet. Sure they have ideas and what not, but they haven't actually decided on anything. The only thing is that perhaps my search wasn't complete.

I agree... Lots of other cities had ample opportunity to step up and be heard, but when it was time to write checks, Salt Lake City did so. That makes them deserving.
Would SLC be MY first pick? No, I can think of at least a dozen places I'd rather see, but all in all I am thrilled to see MLS expand. I am just worried that San Jose is going to be moving. Houston seemed to be a prime pick for expansion and then suddenly you didn't hear anything about it. I am afraid thats because they agreed to take the Quakes off San Jose's hands. Lets hope not.

I can't say that SLC was my prime candidate when I first heard it mentioned, but the more I think about it, the more I like it.
The Jazz have always been well supported, and from what I can tell, the MLS squad shouldn't have too much competition in the summer time. I've been to SLC a few times and it was very nice. You never really hear anything bad about it, which is good. Also, the Blitzz team or however you spell it is extremely well supported for their level of soccer, which also makes me more optimistic.
Furthermore, the stadium they're going to start in doesn't seem so bad at all, and I think one of the deals for expansion now is that they have to have an SSS pretty much ready to go in the next few years, which is a key to league viability obviosuly.

Don't get me wrong, just because its not personal first pick, that doesn't mean I think its a BAD pick. On the contrary... For the same reasons as you mentioned, I think MLS soccer in Salt lake City will do great.
Just like I think it would do well in places like Rochester, Portland, San Antonio, Oklahoma City & Tennessee (Memphis or Nashville).
My only preference would be those sort of cities would be the 20th & beyond teams added, not the 12th, thats all.
