After months of guessing the locations of MLS expansion teams, Major League Soccer is set to official announce this week that Salt Lake City will join the league for the 2005 season.
The Utah bid was headed by former Jazz president Dave Checketts, who is reported to pay a $10-million expansion fee and has plans for a soccer specific stadium in the works.
The other reason behind the league's decision was Checketts commitment to fielding a team for the 2005 campaign.
Chivas USA is also reported to being granted a team to keep a balanced conference structure in place.
