SLC club name/colors...

okay...so if the rumors are true and SLC is awarded the 2nd expansion team for the 2005 season, what will their club name be? i have yet to see/hear any suggestions. so, i will offer my suggestion...the SLC PIONEERS.

someone mentioned black and purple as colors. that would be really cool. those are my college soccer uniform colors.

Pioneers is fine. Then they can do like their ASL club did in 1976, and change the name to Golden Spikers at mid-season. :D Seriously, Pioneers is good. Better than Sodium, Spleen, Large Intestine, or anything else the MLS nickname wonks will come up with.

Colors? Gold and something. Sadly, the Crew have black/yellow. Gold and purple might work. So long as a) it's not a red/black uni b) we don't have a white away jersey.

I really like the Saints as a name idea, not because of the New Orleans football team, but because there is a lot of religious heritage in SLC and it is a traditional name from England.

As for colors, don't do anything too out there like the original MLS clubs. Take cues from England. No one has white and black stripes like New Castle yet.

keep in mind that the jazz have changed their uniforms this year to not 1 but 2 shades of light blue :rolleyes: . i still like purple and black. maybe blue and black. something simple tho. none of those neon colors crap.

I'd go for Utah 'somethings' rather than 'SLC'. Builds identification and fans north and south of the city and name recognition for the state.

What in the world is the relationship between the Legion of Doom and the LDS church? I'm not a Mormon, so it's not religion that's driving the question...just missing the link.

I think just a lot of people who know nothing substantial about the area (not that I claim to know much about it) just let the "Utah=Mormon" stereotype kick in and then they suggest some religious-themed nickname. If I am not mistaken less than half of Salt Lake City's population is Mormon. They need to appeal to all facets of the population, not try to create some tenuous connection with a specific religion.
