It's the best sports manga (japanese comic) I've read. I'm waiting for volume 16 among with thousands of others.
Someone from Japan in a BigSoccer thread mentioned that soccer (though higher in attendance than baseball and about the same in popularity) will never overtake baseball is because of two reasons:
1) Koshien baseball
2) The Giants (it's like the NY Yankees but with a fanbase comprise of the majority of Japan citizens.)
YOU will find out what Koshien baseball is after you start reading. Give it a chance, read at least 2 volumes, you will love it.
