I've posted on other boards about Vancouver and Montreal entering the MLS in 2010 and everyone thing it will not happen. I am of another opinion. I mean everywhere in the world, 2nd division clubs get moved up 2-3 months later to play in the top tier so I do not see how it can not happen here? I mean the Whitecaps will be coming in 2011 so what is the difference if they come a year earlier? I don't believe they will be playing in another league for just one year. It makes no sense. Why not play in the MLS in 2010?

its 2011 for the caps to be in mls-- and that will not change IMO

as far as leaving the usl, the caps are looking at having a reserve team, possibly in kelowna or edmonton, of under 23's so it might mean that they will be part of a new league or mls 2 in a few years (ie the second division); somehow i think mls is the driving force behind this happening

I'm interested to see the news from the Impact, I mean MLS will be dishing some news soon at the MLS Cup. Portland's stadium still isn't finalized and probably won't be before end of the year, Paulson has run into a huge problem that now he probably won't have anywhere for the Baseball team to play in 2011, leaving him the option of basically abandoning the team for MLS or threatening MLS deal. I doubt he'll lose the MLS but snags are coming up a lot.

Vancouver has hit a similar if much smaller snag, they'll not be in BC place till middle of 2011.

I really think they should be pushed back for 2012, you never get a 2nd first impression. That could open doors for TOA since it would mean Vancouver in longer and Portland being the only team in the west for 2 yrs. I don't know I'm just saying it seems like a lot of this is being rushed together and it's going to create a bad image unless theyre very lucky to pull it off.

Also if Portland is the only team moved back a year, I'd love to see Montreal come in their place. I know they just need the funding approved and that's it, they can make it.

What?
I'm saying if they got pushed back a yr cause of ongoing stadium issues and the USL was split. Anyways it was way too many theorethicals to really be of any value. Just ignore and move on.

Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi was on TEAM 1040 sports radio in Vancouver this afternoon and confirmed the Whitecaps are planning to leave the USL and form a separate soccer league with, among others, the Impact.

The Whitecaps and Impact will be joined by five other bodies, as Lenarduzzi envisions an eight-team league.

hmm.

Why are the Whitecaps bothering? They are moving to the MLS in year, why all the fuss?

I thought they wanted a team in both MLS and USL/TOA/whatever league.

the caps want to begin to develop their younger promising players from the soccer academy and PDL teams-- so the new league-- aka. MLS 2 or whatever it is-- will 'fit the bill'
it will act as feeder for their mls team

it wouldn't surprise me if seattle joiined as the 8th team in the proposed new TOA league-- just a guess

If they were to do that, I would like them to make a deal with one of the PDL teams from around here; Seattle Wolves ( who share the Starfire facility with the Sounders) , Tacoma Tide, and the Kitsap Pumas ( which if I remember correctly was the USL Sounders franchise orginally) - to bring one of them up, rather then create one out of whole cloth.

Two teams in one market? A tier 1 & 2 or 3 in the same town? Don't think there are enough fans to go around....

And there is no guarantee that Atlanta will field a team next year.

Biggest BS. The Rue Frontenac article merely states that it remains the Impact goal to enter MLS in 2012, or maybe 2011. It's the same line Saputo's been saying for like 2 yrs. Theres no new scoop. I'm sure he's got his hands busy at the moment so he hasn't been working out some super new offer.

The Teams Owners Association has officially announced their split from the USL. The Atlanta Silverbacks, Carolina Railhawks, Miami FC, Minnesota Thunder, Montreal Impact, Vancouver Whitecaps, and a new club to be formed by St. Louis Soccer United will begin play in April 2010 in a yet-to-be-named league.

Montreal Impact owner Joey Saputo was elected Chairman of the new league
