I would like to ask if anyone has any information about when the qualifying for this tournament will begin. The best approximation I have so far is "in the 2nd part of 2004". Can anyone elaborate further?

I wasn't able to find any more info then what you posted (2nd part of 2004).

I have found out some more info about the Gold Cup qualifying. Martinique will play in a 4-nation friendly tournament also involving Guadeloupe, French Guiana & Dominica in September in preparation for the qualifiers. This seems to me to suggest that the qualifiers will take place sometime in or after September 2004.

Do the higher level nations such as the United States and Mexico have to qualify, or do they get in automatically?

The US qualifies as host (same can be true if Mexico hosts again, although they won last time so they're in automatically). I don't think Canada has to qualify either?

I'm not exactly sure how they decide it though, I think it would be dumb if a team like Costa Rica has to qualify and Canada doesn't, but I don't think Costa Rica had to qualify last time at least...

I could be wrong on this, but my recollection of the last Gold Cup was that Canada, US and Mexico did not have to qualify by virtue of being former champions.

After the last disaster for Canada at the 2003 Gold Cup... it wouldn't surprise me if we had to qualify for the 2005 Gold Cup.

I think its just useful to CONCACAF to auto-qualify Canada. So many of the Carribean countries can barely afford attempting the qualification let alone having to endure the cost of a home and away with Canada. Same, perhaps, true of the smaller Central American federations. Really, I think its just a matter of convenience to let Canada in directly and the "former champion" the perfect excuse.

Dont be so sure that Haiti will be the top dog in the caribbean. The last ime I check Jamaica and TnT have been coming on strong.. and you still have other islands that have invested aloy into their football programs....

The Gold Cup is every 2 years? I thought it was every year for some reason.

Miami in July. Bloody brilliant. The Gold Cup just becomes a bigger and bigger joke.

Hopefully, Canada just sends a B team, we have a hard enough time getting an A squad together for the WCQ's.

At least it'll reduce the USA's travel in a packed WCQ year:

2005 Final Round

26-27 March – Game 2
30 March – Game 3
4-5 June – Game 4
8 June – Game 5
17 August – Game 6
3-4 September – Game 7
7 September – Game 8
8-9 October – Game 9
12 October – Game 10

Just to double check is the Gold Cup Final in Miami? or the entire tournament is in the states. I remember it was suppose to be all USA till they changed it out of the blue and it was shared with Mexico & USA last time.

I can't read that French report. If any one can get a good translation. That would be appreciated.

A bunch of the smaller Caribbean nations are playing Gold Cup qualifiers later this year. Countries like St. Kitts and Montserrat and Suriname.
