I heard on a Argentine radio show The Sounders were intrested in River Plate left sided mid fielder Matias Abelarias. Is any of this true. El Pitu has 92 games with River and scored 11 goals. He is apart of Riverīs youth squad and has been a senior member since 2006.

Interesting. We have of course been in Argentina twice in the last year, so it will be nice to see some of the connections we have made down there.

We played against River Plate on March 5 during pre-season.

Question is.. Do we really want a player from a River Plate team that has been called the worst in River Plate history?

You know Cortez Kennedy played for the worst Seahawk team in history. Ditto Jake Locker and Husky football. I would be willing to bet that not the entire team is shite. :)

He was also instrumental in Riverīs first title in more than 4 years in 2008. So just sayin.. El Pitu is not the reason River is where it is.

Interesting. Of course this is Zakuani's normal spot, so I'm wondering if this happened, would Zakuani be transitioned to a CAM role?
We need CAM more than we need left mid, IMO. We also need striker ;)
At any rate, thanks for the information, MM :)

We have a CAM, his name is Freddie Ljungberg. Unfortunately, he has been getting stuck up front far too often. I would hope that if they brought someone in on the left, they'd move Zak up to left forward (which I think is a better position for him anyway).

i would take el pitu over 90% of the winders in MLS. hands down.

I think you've answered your own question. Aberlarias in at Left Mid and Zakuani as a striker (his natural position). That way we still have Zakuani's speed to take advantage of and we don't care about his suckiness at defense.

anyone want to take a stab at how either calabro or our stadium announcer, Mike, will butcher his name if he does in fact come here?

Worst team in River Plate history is better than every Top MLS allstar team since its has begun. Argie league > all european leagues other than the top 3 (italy, spain, england)
Guy if I remember correctly has a sick free kick and thought Lazio wanted him before River went down that blackhole last season

Well, there is no chance Calabro will pronounce it correctly if it is spelled wrong.
His name is Matias Abelairas.
Maybe "Matty Ass Ay Be Ler Ass."

That would be great signing. He's young and plays regular for River.
