View Full Version : Despite the Lopsided Results & Nil Financial Incentive... the Champions League benefits even FMF

Watching Toluca youngster Raul Nava squander a handful of sitters against DC United yesterday... I dawned on me that the CCL is VERY beneficial to Mexican futbol. Only in the CCL would a young, domestic center forward like Nava get to start a match.
Yesterday he sucked and showed why Mancilla's starting position is not under threat... but at least he got an opportunity.. whearas other Mexican youngsters languish on the bench or in the stands... never getting the opportunity to fail... or succeed. If Nava fails... then Toluca at least knows he is not the gem, and can groom another player for the position... but when youngsters don't get the opportunity to fail they just end up clogging up the development pipeline and taking a place on the bench... and those coming up don't even get the chance to train with the first team.
CCL is a very good parameter for young Mexican players. If they can't perform well in this tournament... then discard them to another league * hint * Landin * hint.

Good point. However, there is a financial incentive. The CWC pays good no matter how you do.
Last night no doubt raised hope for MML teams. The better a Mexican team does in early matchdays, the more likely they will field reserves towards the end of the group stage. And if a MML team faces said Mexican reserves, their chances for that elusive win on Mexican soil increase.

Sure they increase but DC United never really threatened for the win... even in the 1st half when Toluca was still strolling about... it always seemed like the equalizer would come whenever Toluca decided to step on the gas.

Another case for this: I don't follow his career that closely, but if I'm not mistaken, Mendivil wasn't much of a major player in the past. Then at the same time as the Apertura last year, he started catching fire in the Champions League, and look at him now: he's Pachuca's go-to guy for goals.

that may be true about young players getting the start in this tournament
but still, i would much rather have Mexican teams play in the Copa Sudamericana than this piece of shit tournament
the FMF should plan out a new format that will allow Mexican teams participate in all 3 (Libertadores, Sudamericana, CCC) with no problems what so ever

Hey, I know the competition is shitty because of the pitiful level of football talent in the rest of the continent, but at least it's an easy ticket to the CWC. So F it, just enjoy the Mexican dominance.

As a full on chivas supporter it bothers me to see so many cocky mexican league supporters act so over confident. Were not going to dominate forever, the other leagues in the area may not be up to par but they for sure will improve. I know we will loose matches in the future and finals aswell, c'mon lets be real were not at some unreachable level of futbol. Of course I want mexican clubs to win, but I know for a fact their is going to be some intense matches in the upcoming future or possibly this year's tournament. I just want to see some great matches, teams going at it with all they got. Let the hungriest best club win.
