Soon to be a United Great or not????
I think he will be better than he was at Leeds by far because he wont have to carry the team.

I think it's a given that he'll get more scoring chances while on the pitch for Man Utd than he did with Leeds.

He will turn to be a better player. Coaches at OT will help him improve his technique and control his temper, and he will get more chances.

I think he will be far better this coming season than he was last. Imagine what a card filled partnership Rooney and Smith would be. You could lose both strikers in one game.

Smith will prove to be very useful... a good guy to put out there against teams that we know we should beat but need to rest either Ruud or Saha... it will even out because his effort will make up for what talent he lacks and he will benefit from better players around him.

When I've seen Smith, he's had a tendency to drop futher back out of a striker position. Don't know if that's his natural play, or if he was just making up for the Leeds midfield. He hasn't been a goal scoring machine so far...I'll wait to see what he does with service from Giggs and Ronaldo before making any big pronouncements.

But I will say that he looked good playing at OT last season, rising above the immobile Wes Brown.

Good point... he is a very active player and would give us a spark, comparable to what Rooney did for England, not on the same scale, but he would be willing to come back and get the ball and do things that some other strikers would not do...

Smith is a striker who doesn't finish well. And a winger who isn't fast enough, doesn't cross well enough, and doesn't dribble well enough.

That comes off harsh, of course. He's a good player, without any doubt. But he isn't truly excellent at anything - except at trying. And that's not good enough.

I expect him to be a lot like Diego Forlan, except slightly better in all respects.

Smith was excellent when Leeds had a good team and he helped get them to the champions league semis.

Save Saha, Smith would be the best aerial threat we have... he is a very good leaper and can score headers if given room.

We don't need alot from Smith... 7-12 goals scored and 5-8 goals created in limited starts and a scattering of substitute appearances would be great... I don't think that that is beyond him at all - he is going to be a bench player and add depth for injuries...

He wasn't even that good on Leeds.

that is a ridiculous statement, he carried Leeds and if it wasn't for him they would have been written off a lot earlier.

Carried Leeds to where, exactly?

Check out his goal-scoring record, pretty poor for a starting striker.

When Leeds were excellent Smith was in diapers and Cantona had yet to break out his sweet kung fu.

I guess that would be wherever Leeds is now, which I believe is Nationwide First Division?

Don't you mean The Coca-Cola Football League Championship?

Expect Leeds to linger, along with West Ham.

LOL!

Expect Leeds and West Ham to linger? The Hammers may just pull it off in the next year or two with Pardew at the helm. As for Leeds, I don't expect them to linger. I do expect them to have the likes of Chesterfield, Blackpool, Luton, Oldham, and Wednesday on their fixture list this time next year. Yep, that's right, another relegation is looming.

Exaclty. The lil' punk has never scored more than a handful or so of goals in a year. In fact, more often than not he's landed more cards than he has goals.
