Figure we need one now that it's July.

Looks like the Rangers have finally told Lindros to f off. They declined to pick up the option on him for 2004/2005.

Yup...free agent market just opened up, but nothing big will happen with the CBA set to expire in September.....sucks.

I cant imagine not being able to watch hockey next season after my boys won it all.

Colorado Avalanche signings:

Re-ups: Chris Gratton, Karlis Skrastins, Bob Boughner, Peter Worell

New signings: Antti Laaksonen, Ian LaPerriere.

With LaPerriere in the fold, does that mean Barnaby is signing elsewhere, since they're practically the same player (style, irratating, occasional goal scoring)?

Don't know of any other signings across the league. It will move real slowly with the uncertainty of the season(s), I was suprised to hear about all the Avs moves.

Well, I think my Thrashers will finally make the playoffs as long as Dany Heatly can straited his sh!t out. Last year they did great until he came back, then they lost focus. Our defense is stronger now that we got Boris Valabik (6'7" , 210 and climbing) on the draft and picked up Jaroslav Modry from the Kings via free-agancy. If we can re-sign all of our players will be good to go.

Too bad about Heatly. He was on his way to becoming a superstar, but now I don't think he'll ever recover. The team probably won't either....too many bad memories. I'll be anxious to see how he does this season. I hope he can work through it, because he's a tremendous hockey player.

The team actually played very good before Heatly came back. I was at the game when he came back, they tied the Blues 1-1. After that the team didn't win in 12 straight games and after that they never got back to the way they were, Heatly himself was the distraction. I think that the will forget it (they put it behind them til Heatly came back) and go on. It is just the matter of everyone being able to gel with Heatly again.

That's what I meant, it just didn't come out right. The team will be ok, if they can either get over or get rid of the distraction (Heatly). But as long as he's there, I think it might be difficult for them to gel again.

If you want to get a look at what rule changes are possible for the NHL in 2005, here's what the AHL approved for the 2004 season in their league meetings:

- Automatic (No-touch) icing

- "Touch-up" offsides. A team can negate a delayed offsides by "tagging-up" to the blue line.

- Goal lines moved back to 11 feet from the boards (currently, the lines are at 13 feet). The blue lines will be adjusted to maintain a 60 foot attacking zone, meaning that there is a larger neutral zone to work with.

- Blue lines widened from 12 inches to 24 inches, and passes from the defensive edge of one blue line to the offensive edge of the other will be allowed.

- Goalie leg pad width reduced to 10 inches. (Currently at 12 inches)

- The league will also mandate when a goalie can play the puck. It's a 7 week experiment, and no details have been given, but it'll probably wind up to where the goalie can't go behind the net to play the puck in certain situations, or something like that. This one is still kind of hazy, and it's the only one with a publicly stated time limit on it.

- The playoff structure has been tweaked, bringing it in line, kind of, with the NHL. In the past, 20 teams made the playoffs, the top 5 finishers from the 4 divisions. 4th place played 5th place in a "lightning round", a best of 3 series, all at the 4th placed team. Winner played the #1 seed in the division in the first round. The new structure will eliminate this. Top 4 teams from each division will make the playoffs, #1 vs. #4, #2 vs. #3. Winners play in the Divisional Final, winners there play in the Conference Final, and the Conference Champs play for the Calder Cup. All series will be best-of-7.

- And...The shootout is added! (Cheer, or complain, depending on preference.) For regular season games that are tied after regulation, and a 5 minute OT, a shootout will decide the winner. The point structure is:
2 points for a win
1 point for a shootout, or OT loss
0 points for a regulation loss

It doesn't seem like a bad list, though I'd like to see exactly what the rules are going to be for goalies playing the puck. I don't mind the shootout, but I'd only give a point for a shootout loss, not an OT loss.

These two suck. The others are fine. Does anyone actually think points for LOSING are a good idea? If you don't want teams who go tied after 60 minutes leaving empty handed then eliminate overtime.

I still like the 3/1/0 system, like some other sport that escapes me at the moment. Should be enough to encourage teams to go for it in regulation.

I actually liked the Qualifying Series. It gave a real advantage to winning the division.

The NHL has been awarding OT losers a point now for a while, the OT win is just a bonus point really.

I know, still one of the stupidest ideas in the history of North American sport.

BLUES re-sign weinrich, excellent move - they've also acquired patrick lalime from ottawa for a 3rd or 4th rd. pick and re-signed khavanov, drake and johnson - demitra was allowed to become a free agent - don't be surprised if the BLUES try to bring FA brendan shanahan back to st. louis

Rangers sign Tom Renney as their head coach. Conference call expected soon. I don't know how I feel about this. Jacques Martin was the one name that came up, along with Joel Quenneville (sp?). There was also Ryan McGill who led the Rangers AHL affiliate Hartford to the Calder Cup finals. Renney said he his first priority is to set up a system that'll put pressure on all areas of the ice and give the Rangers respect. I seriously doubt it. As far as I'm concerned, if Glen Sather and Jimmy F*in Dolan are still in charge, this team will go nowhere. F DOLAN!

I was really hoping the Rangers would re-sign Barnaby but I guess that ain't happening now. Wanted Chris Simon back too. It was nice having gritty guys on the team.
