View Full Version : Ronaldo's Name

I posted this in one of the Ronaldo threads, but no one responded as it was a little off topic. In reading the World Soccer Euro 2004 special edition, there was a brief paragraph next to Ronaldo's picture that said he was named after the late President Ronaldo Reagan. Does anyone know this to be true? I mean Ronaldo is his last name right? I don't think people can choose their last names, at least not where I come from in America. Is there any truth to this brief snippet I read in World Soccer?

I'm looking at the November 2003 issue of FourFourTwo, it's the issue with Ronaldo and Cristiano Ronaldo on the cover.

From the story of Crisitano Ronaldo:

"The life of Cristiano Ronaldo Santos Aveiro, born in Madeira on February 5, 1985 ... They (his parents) each agreed that they would choose a name. My mother chose Cristiano and my father went for Ronaldo. He told me later that it was because he really liked Ronald Reagan, who was the U.S. president in 1985, the year I was born."

There ya have it.

I almost fell off my chair I was laughing so hard.
I'd sig you, but 655321 got there ahead of me, even if he does have an unflattering sig about Chelsea  ;)

I, too, was a bit late on the trigger, but it's laugh out loud funny, to say the least....

Ew. Better than Nixono, Fordo, or Cartero though.

You're forgetting Polko, Tafto and Trumano. And my favorite - Hardingo. (Sounds like a Brazilian player, actually :D)
