Hey - Revs fan here under the flag of truce :). Since both Seattle and the Revs have turf fields, I was curious to find out what the Sounders practice on - grass or turf?
If anyone knows please let me know - thanks.
The Revs play on turf and practice on grass. Just curious to see if there's a correlation between practice/game surface and injuries.

The Sounders practice at the Starfire complex which has both turf & grass fields. The main field is turf, however. I would suspect that they practice on turf for the home games, but on the grass fields for the away games in grass stadiums. I cannot confirm this, but it would make sense. Their practice facility does have fields with both, so the ability is there if they so choose.

Awesome - thank you. That makes complete sense.

Sounders use their grass field and then switch over to turf for the final two days of training before a game on turf. Otherwise the preference is to not use turf. I think it minimizes the chance of turf-related injuries.

RevsLiverpool - this guy would know a million times more than me on the subject, go with what he says. ;)

Great - thank you both. Maybe it's in my head but its quite a coincidence the number of injuries that have taken place on turf fields for the Revs.

The Revs have no business playing on that field. Watching that last match between them and the Sounders was painful. I kept thinking our guys got a first down and Montero had a TD. It was very distracting.
I look forward to seeing the stadium you guys get!
I think injuries on turf are just due to a lack of acclimation; once you spend a fair amount of time playing on the surface, you get used to how to play on it.

I doubt most of the injuries the Rev's suffered this year were related to their turf field. The Rev's just play more on turf, so the likelihood of an injury happening while they were on the turf is higher than a team that has a grass practice and game day field. Most of the studies I've seen say that there really isn't a difference between injury frequency, just different type of injuries.
