This are fresh news from Germany.

Hitzfeld today refused to take over as German NT coach, after Rudi Völler resigned last week, despite being the only serious contender for this position.

So why should this interest ManU supporters? Rumour (in German TV Channel DSF) is that Hitzfel already signed a contract with ManU from 2005 on! Seems like Fergueson has something like a rolling contract (compensation for 1 year only if he gets fired despite having a long-term contract) and the big shareholders are, as we all know, not satisfied with Alex.

My opinion:
I doubt that rumour as Hitzfeld's foreign language knowledge is really limited. That was also the barrier that made him refuse to sign with Real Madrid in 1998.

On the other hand everybody was more than sure that he will become Gemany's next NT coach as he stated many times he wants to do this sometime in the future and as he was without a job after being fired by Bayern München. So maybe it's true.....

Hmm, interesting. I certainly haven't heard anything about him joining us, but if he wishes to do so I'm sure we'd be glad to have him aboard. I know he was mentioned as a possible coach for Spurs before they agreed with Santini.

Keep us updated! :)

I don't want this clown coaching United. Once Sir Alex's days are over I am sure there would be someone like Steve McClaren or someone from "the family" that would be a better candidate than this guy.

Hitzfeld and Scolari should be in the picture when Fergie retires. They'll stick around for 3-5 years then by that time, some of the United coaching family might have actually won something. Fergie had proven his mettle at Aberdeen b/f coming to United by winning a European Cup. None of the candidates to succeed Fergie should have anything less than European Cup or a league title.

How about a certain manager of Celtic, who has won many time

Never heard about this rumour before, but Hitzfeld certainly should be considered as an option when SAF retires.

I love Hitzfeld as a coach, He's a great tactician and is very disciplined. He speaks English very well as a matter of fact, better than the asswipe Mourinho.

He doesn't speak English very well as far as I know. OK, not Lothar Matthäus style ("We have a little bit lucky" *ggg*).

At all a great coach (12 years of Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern München -> 7 BL-titles, 2 CL-titles)

Hitzfeld and Fergie are very close friends so I think he's definitely in the mix. BTW regarding Scolari:

Scolari quit his job with Brazil when they were on top of the world, looking for a new challenge. He is impatient, and after his next target, the 2006 World Cup, he will be looking for something new. He would love the chance to coach England.

Martin O'Neill is a definite possibility as well, but let's see how he does without Larsson.
