This is my first time starting a new thread and I don't believe anyone has posted this. I have no opinion on it if it is true.

Two Words : Alecko Eskandarian

More than two words: Is playing better right now. This probably partly explains the lack of PT.

If indeed, the little child "regarded as one of the brightest prospects in world football" is crying about playing time, maybe he can do something original and score so the coach will change his playing schedule! Stick a sock in it Adu; you're not that good and you seem a bit spoiled!

DC United starlet Freddy Adu has vented his frustration at lack of playing time in MLS this season after coming off the bench against Dallas Burn.

He can't be as frustrated as I am watching him take minutes from players like Alecko and Gros who deserve it far more.

So far I agree with what has been posted. I do think it's a shame that MLS doesn't have reserve matches like the rest of the world so Adu can get some work in. We need to know what he is capable of and sitting on the bench doesn't tell us anything but taking away minutes from Alecko and Gros would be tragic

I can't beleive this kid! He's making more than three times the max salary, hasn't been overly impressive in the minutes he has played and he's going to whinge about having to work his way into the lineup? I was impressed at how he was handling himself....WAS! Boy is he going to be upset when Caniccia (or whomever) signs and jumps right into the starting lineup!

I was thinking the same thing. It's going to be tougher to justify forcing Freddy into the lineup each week when we actaully have a choice of forwards coming off the bench.

I can't believe that anyone is surprised that a guy who has excelled at every level in his career (all 15 years) is upset that he is not playing. If he did not think he should be on the field then he should not be on the roster. He needs to take his frustration to the practice field and earn more playing time.
I can only think that the thought of Freddy starting is pushing Alecko harder and that is exactly what we want.

There will be more playing time as injuries and card accumulation build up over the summer.

And he probably has the same frustration as every other player on the team (or most teams) has who aren't consistently starting. It's just that Freddy is the only one with 16 microphones jammed in his face and 6 dumb reporters asking him how it feels to sit on the bench all the time ....... I was starting to get peeved at Freddy, then I put it into perspective and got over it. I doubt this is any big deal between Freddy and Peter .... now how the rest of the team takes the stories in the paper is anyone's guess*. I hope his frustrations do encourage him to "bring it" on the practice fields; the kid's got game ... he just needs to be patient. I was anything but patient at 15. And I wasn't even a hot-shot athlete expected to be "the greatest ever". My guess is that Freddy will be fine, and everyone will be fine with Freddy, but having a "superstar" on your team can be difficult ....

* so is anything in this thread, or hell 90% of the boards

That's a reasonable way to look at this.

Hence, I'll be ignoring what you have to say on the matter. I'd prefer to be outraged just for the sake of outrage.

If Adu didn't want to start every game, I don't want him on the team.

The same holds true for every member of the team. Period.

I can't believe that you're whinging about him whinging. And I can't believe that I'm whinging about you whinging.

So what happens if any other player on the team starts shooting his mouth off to the press complaining about playing time?

And more to the point, how does it affect the other players on the team if they see that everyone is not treated the same?

Nowak, has absolutely got to be fuming, as big of a discipline and professionalism guy as he is. Now he has to expect 20 other players to understand that the reason he can't maintain consistent expectations for all team members is because he is forced to babysit a marketing tool, not just coach a player.

Good God, this article is all of 11 paragraphs long, and some of those paragraphs are single sentences. It closes with these three "paragraphs."

United coach Peter Nowak has stated he senses no frustration from Adu with whom he is in constant conversation.

"We talk every single day," said Nowak. "I don't see his frustration.

"He's supposed to know the number one important thing is the team and how we work together." It's a fluff piece. They asked the youngest professional athlete in any sport since the late 1800s whether or not he wanted to play more and he said "yes." He gets media attention because he is so young. If they asked any other player on the team who is on the bench at kickoff the same questions, he'd give the same answers.

Of course Adu wants to start. Every player on the team wants to start.

Get a grip, people. There's nothing to see here. Move along.

I agree, but wanting to start doesn't always get you on the pitch. And complaining to the media gets you a little further away from the pitch. I am guessing most people (even non-socer fans) would expect him to be frustrated by his playing time. So does he need to "air it out" in the newspapers? According to Nowak they talk every day so I am guessing they have a good understanding of each other and where Freddy stands in terms of getting more time. And, honestly, Freddy doesn't really say anymore than, "I would like to be playing more."

See my last post. This is an 11 paragraph fluff piece on Sky Sports News, who is covering the youngest professional athlete in over 100 years. He gets media attention because of his age. He is not complaining to the media. He's answering their questions honestly.

One of the challenges that coaches have is limiting how much their players blab to the media. In a perfect world, players would heed the admonition that everything said among the team stays right there. But players are well aware of their freedom to speak. Becoming a mature professional is knowing how to interact with the media without creating potential points of dissension or controversy. In time, Freddy will learn how to convey his thoughts in a way that does not stir the pot.
