Sounds like the Cleveland MLS expansion bid may be rising from the ashes like the phoenix, thanks to Bert Wolstein's old business partner...
Clip: John McGill was Wolstein's business partner at the Heritage Development Co. He said he's close to getting more than 100 acres of land in Summit County needed for a 25,000-seat soccer-only stadium.
"I consider it to be still alive," McGill said Monday. "We're still working on a particular site."
McGill did not identify the site. He said that if the land is acquired, he would then talk with Summit County officials about helping to finance the proposed stadium. McGill said most of the money for the stadium would come from the public.
Let's not count it out just yet...

Well, that lasted all of a day. I'd like to see a reply from Trecker on this.
However, there's the other half of Trecker's rumor/semi-rumor, or whatever you want to call it (and as a San Jose native, it pains me to be the bearer of bad news about this)...
Quakes confirm talks to move outside area -- San Jose Mercury News (http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/9037268.htm?ERIGHTS=5516231521534050570mercurynews::bigsoccer@bigsoccer.com&KRD_RM=8opotqoxwxorwqvrpqrooooooo|bigsoccer|N)
However, according to some posters back home reporting on the Quakes forum here, NBC11 in San Jose reported last night that there are some civic and local governmental bodies looking to step up efforts to build a new home for the team-- and reportedly putting that ahead of rumored plans to build a baseball stadium for a possible home for the Oakland A's or any other Major League Baseball team.
The last two paragraphs of Dylan Hernandez's article in the Mercury News confirms this...
Kevin Moore of the Santa Clara Stadium Association said he was hopeful that a creative financial solution could be found to build a venue in Santa Clara. Moore, who noted he wasn't speaking on behalf of the city, pointed to the recently finished Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park as an example of Santa Clara's ability to complete projects that others didn't think were possible.
Meanwhile, the board of directors of the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce voted unanimously Monday to support the retention of the Earthquakes. They also voted to support Baseball San Jose's effort to build a grassroots base of support to bring major league baseball to San Jose.
So it looks like there are indeed two sides to this story, and it depends on which side one would think is more likely to believe.
And yes, I doubt we'd hear Trecker's side of the story on that, either, something I am not holding my breath about. Suffice it to say that I am not a fan of his either, and this goes back several years and not just with this story.

MLS chatter buzzing about Rhinos again (http://www.democratandchronicle.com/sports/rhinos/06294U4OB0B_sports.shtml) -Rochester D&C
According to Jeff Diveronica MLS IS looking at moving KC and SJ. Most of his article is based on Street&Smith's Sports Business Journal report.
Once again we see this statement, and this time its from Don Garber, "Rochester is a market we believe will be in MLS, and it is not if but when."

On this date.....
1950 - In perhaps the biggest World Cup upset of all time, Joe Gaetjans' goal lifts the US over England 1-0 at the World Cup in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Someone should consider making a movie about this.
1975 - Pele scores a pair of goals to help the New York Cosmos to a 9-2 win over the Washington Diplomats in front of a then-NASL-record 35,620 fans at RFK Stadium.
1997 - A Roy Lassiter goal in the 51st minute gives the USA a 1-1 draw in a World Cup Qualifier in El Salvador.

Gold Star to the KC Star, chasing it down, and writing the refuting article right away. Great job.
I remember the days when I read Trecker and Wagman religiously because I had little else to read, and I would almost scream with happiness when a new Boot Room was posted. Still like Bradley, but I'm so happy those days are over.

Well, that lasted all of a day. I'd like to see a reply from Trecker on this.
But check this Garber comment:
"Garber acknowledged that the league is facing several challenges and that the Wizards playing in 80,000-seat Arrowhead Stadium is one of them.
“No matter how well we do, we are lost in that large stadium,” Garber told the SportsBusiness Journal. “And we have not been able to create a path to a soccer-specific stadium.”
Garber followed with a comment that sounded as if MLS would stick with the Wizards at Arrowhead, at least for the time being.
“We'll continue to work hard to make it work,” he said.
While KC might be safe in the near future, those aren't very strong statements for the long term. Let's hope they can get something seriously moving on the SSS front.

Trecker wrote the Sports Business Journal report. That's the article that started all this.

It is somewhat nostalgic to see a Post-Standard link. I graduated from Syracuse University a year ago. Again, I can't believe Syracuse managed to become part of the national soccer scene. IMO, if soccer is working there, it can work anywhere in this country. The SU team had a player from Colombia's Millonarios, and new Galaxy player Chris Aloisi.
