I was just watching the movie "A Shot at Glory" with Robert Duvall and Ally McCoist. It is a good soccer movie. My favorite one though, "Escape to Victory" with Pele and all the other soccer legends who are playing for the Allies against the Nazis during WWII. What is everyone's favorite soccer film?

No soccer movie can come close to The Final Goal starring international thespian, Erik Estrada.

Obviously, this thread was created to find the second best soccer movie.

My favorite soccer movie has to be the Big Green considering how I am 17 and it was the only soccer movie me and my friends knew about for the longest time. The best movie that involves socer though has to be The Boys in Company C, they play soccer to get off the front lines of Vietnam and the final game culminates in what I would consider the ultimate soccer riot. I have seen some of Shaolin Soccer too though be it in whatever its original language is (my friends brother was watching it to brush up on his Korean/Japanese) and it was pretty good.

Yeah Shaolin soccer is really funny and entertaining to watch. I have the Cantonese language version. It's pretty good.

Victory (aka Escape to Victory)
the Cup
Boys in Company C
There's Only One Jimmy Grimble
The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick (though it's not really a football movie)
Bend It Like Beckham
Cracker: To Be A Somebody

In spite of the fact it's a football movie (Ally McCoist did a decent acting job too) A Shot at Glory is pretty terrible. Well come to think of it so is Victory, but it's, well, Victory.

Wow. I forgot about this Estrada movie. I have never seen it, but I saw it on DVD for something like $3.99 at Walgreens.

Anyone ever see this gem?

So bad... it's got Pele in it too!

Rich boy wants to play pro soccer. Ends up on some team. The team has its own stadium. I can't even remember the name of the team. But they called it "Whatever Stadium" after the team.

Only problem... the field is astroturf and has football lines all over it.

Football factory, although it is about Hooliganism. For all out soccer, I'd have to say Shaolin Soccer.

Yeah, but as you say...it's Victory. My wife has never seen the movie but even she knows what my friends and I are joking about when we say, "Hatch, Hatch, halftime, halftime."

"For all out soccer, I'd have to say Shaolin Soccer." - lobotomycures

To a big degree, I'd have to agree with this. I saw it ages ago, and enjoyed its cartoonish angle. Very enjoyable.

"A Shot at Glory" with Robert Duvall and Ally McCoist. I bought the VHS for $0.99 two weeks ago. Its not amazing, but for $0.99 it can't be beat.

So how many soccer movies do we have coming out in the next 2 years?
"Game of thier Lives" and though haven't heard anything about it in a while, but there's a "GOAL!" trilogy also being made.

I enjoyed Mean Machine.

I guess I should elaborate... I liked Mean Machine because it was a soccer move that had all the guys from Lock,Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch (sans brad pitt). Two movies that I love.

What is the name of that movie coming out next year where Elijah Wood is kicked out of Harvard, goes to live with his sister in London, and becomes obsessed with a bunch of hooligans that cheer for West Ham so he joins their supporters club and gets in some trouble???? I heard they filmed at the stadium during real games too.

I remember enjoying "An Evening With Gary Lineker" way back in '94 when I saw it on a flight over to England.

I'd also second the nomination for "The Cup," though it's more about being a fan than the game itself.

That Irish one with Colm Meany selling fish n chips is similar, and also good fun. "The Snapper," is it?

PS: Did anyone else catch the DVD of The Office, when they show the cast watching the Eng. victory of Argentina in the 02 WC?
