It seems I may have stumbled on a bit of information at the Costa Rican football federation site. CS Cartagines striker, Claudio Ciccia may be the Uruguayian in question. I have not been able to find much information on him as of yet but, as I find more I'll add it this thread

It might help if you let us know how you stumpled upon this name...
All I could find on him was a story about Cartago from the previous season. The babelfish translation reads like a very bad horoscope:
"In the Carthaginian, Claudius Ciccia knew what they were the roses, and today knows what they are the thorns, the life gives many returns. "the good thing is that now we began a new stage, and we are all it jeopardize so that Carthage is fighting the championship. For that it is necessary to fight surely very many, and to try to improve every day the level to arrive at a end with Saprissa ", explained Ciccia. Their 41 goals in the previous campaign, took to him to become the second anotador of the world, only surpassed by the Paraguayan, Jose Cardozo. Saborío removes a great advantage to him. Jumps the question, are closed the doors for Claudius Ciccia? According to him the important thing is that the equipment wins and if can get to be goleador, welcome is. In this season Claudius it is a species of solitary llanero, his fight does not find the force of the colectivity. In the previous campaign there was amount and quality in his goals. The future of Ciccia it does not stop being uncertain, so far is to the service of an equipment that it tries to return to the privilege positions, the Carthaginian."
Ow, my head hurts after attempting to understand that.

Maybe he just wants to come to DC to have the small construction worker removed from his left hand. Or maybe that's a sign he should play for the Crew.....

I have been able to find very little on him, because he isn't from LDA or Saprissa it makes it very hard. But what I have fdound that in temporada 2003 he was 2 goals away from setting the all-time scoring record in Costa Rica, and he is now 31.

It's the all time single season scoring record, which seems to say that at 31 (or 30 as the TicoTimes article states) he is still in his prime.
He's certainly worth pursuing and would likely be a big help to the team, at least for this season which is all that really matters for the time being....

wasn't one of the "clues" that he was 31 yrs old? this seems to match the profile.
i wonder if he's the one thats out of contract?
is he the all-out striker? or the "something special"?

Granted, my spanish is not great, but I read the article to say basically the following:
He's coming here for a trial with the hopes of landing a contract for 2005. He's under contract through 2004 with his club.
Cheers,
Tim

If you scan though the following document:
http://www.rsssf.com/tablesc/cos03.html
It would appear the Claudio scored 39 goals in 2002/2003.

What I thought the article said (and I used one of the crappy online translators) that he intened to sign a two year deal with Cartigines after he returned from his trial with United. Making him out of contract currently. I'm thinking he's not the target man that everyone has been speaking of, but I believe him to be a DECENT aquisition whenever United can sign him. Although in my thoughts every other player brought in from the Costa Rican league has essentaily been a wash (ie William Sunsing, Erik Scott, Jose Cancela, Maurico Wright, etc. etc.)

So, this could be one of our guys? Also, I don't think Cancela is a "wash", but more of a player who doesn't play very well in NE's system of the playmaker being out wide (Ralston). Lastly, nice job with the research.

He's going to be getting a look atleast. On paper he looks ok, I'm a bit afraid of his age but, thats neither here nor there.
The numbers are fantastic in costa rica, with the lone exception the year he spent with LDA. But LDA is a tough line up to crack.

So, he's going to be brought in on trial but even if he impresses he can't be signed until 2005? Or, is this the guy (I think Payne) was talking about who would be slightly tricky to get because he isn't available on a free? Either way I still would like him to be here. One thing is for sure, the other two forwards are Argentine, tall, and are "younger".

Good catch UF72. I just confirmed it with DCUnited that Ciccia is the player that is on trial with the club. He came in today.

I agree. Cancela is a very good player. He's just on a crappy team. Kind of like Kyle Martino.

I think you could venture to say the same of Erick Scott, as well.

I don't know Cancela, but every time I've seen C-bus play, Martino has been a non-entity.
