Ticos Move On Without Sampson - Hartford Courant (http://www.ctnow.com/sports/hc-socsun0627.artjun27,1,5876455.story?coll=hc-headlines-sports)

Jerry Trecker is a former Courant staff writer who retired June 1.

Thanks for being one of the trail blazers in covering soccer in this country. You've done it for 50 years and you've finally decided to hang it up.

You've seen us grow from absolutely nothing, to a country worth fearing. From local semi-pro leagues to an aging all-star gimmick to a legitimate first division.

You endured the 40 years in the desert and seen us find the oasis.

Now we have soccer stadiums, fans that live and breath behind our game, players that are wanted everywhere and a growing stable of writers strewn across the land covering our game.

Enjoy your retirement.

Well said, Jim-- and as a journo myself that spent a fair bit of time covering American soccer and MLS before my move overseas, I would have to echo your words to the retiring Trecker 100 per cent.

Congratulations on a fantastic career, and sowing the seeds for what we are able to enjoy today.
