I started this thread because of the sentiments of some Hardcore United fans. At our viewing party, more than a few fans said that Convey simply has no interest in playing for United. It has nothing to do with the missed goal, but rather with the way he carries himself when he wears the Red & Black. Is it time to cut the chord or are we just imagining things?

Does any know how he gets along with his teammates? Do they like him? Does he like them?

In my time covering the team, I sort of saw Convey as just another one of the guys. His ability to get along with his teammates never stood out as in he was one of the more vocal guys in the room or anything, but I never got the feeling that he was adrift from the guys either. Keep in mind, this was 2 seasons ago (full time at least), so with player movement, this may or may not have changed.

I have not seen the light in Convey's performances this season. He did make what I thought and said at the time was a quality cross on Esky's goal, however, I don't think he had done anything before then and yes, the open net miss was bad, to say the least. Remember on his cross, however, as well, the work that Gros did to set that up, making the run on the ball to open up the corner for Convey to have space to make the cross. I honestly believe without Gros on the field, that play wouldn't have happened.

To answer the question (and it's a damn good one Chico, believe me) Convey's still what, 20, 21? I don't know if he wants to play for DCU or not. Frankly, I'm not sure if he truly knows what he wants to do and that may be weighing on him at this point. There also may be a consideration that once Marco was out, maybe he thought it would be "his" team, both off the field and on the field running the show. It clearly is not his team yet, and perhaps that has got his goat a little bit, as well.

Well, he plays hard, but the non-verbal stuff implies he wants a change of scenery. I can't really blame the kid, seeing as his tenure has coincided with the really bad years. Overall, I'd like to see him continue in a DC kit, drop some of the bad habits of showing frustration at teammates and continue playing hard like he always has. But I sincerely doubt that's a long term reality.

And the miss: OW. That was really just plain freekin painful to watch.

Cheers,
Tim

You know Ed, we saw the level of play pick up once Gros came in because United was pretty stagnant after their goal. But the big picture is Conveys body language. He simply can't hide it. From an outsiders point of view it seems like he has no connection with his teamates and is playing for himself.

THFC really needs him and we need the money. He shows some sparks but he really does not seem to be trying as hard as last season. Maybe he is just tired from National team duty.

After the goal, didn't he jump up on Esky? He seemed to be celebrating just like everybody else.

I see the same body language from Convey playing for DCU that he has when he plays for Arena. He just keeps an intent look on his face most of the time and doesn't show much emotion. Did you see the play last Sunday when he received a real bad tackle from a Grenada player and was down for a while? Most players would have been yelling in anger... he just kept that same facial expression on his face and said nothing, got up and kept playing.

Do you see him making selfish plays with the ball, refusing to play defense, refusing to pass the ball, etc.? I sure don't. I've seen him wave his arms occassionally when he's open on the wing, but other than that, I don't see him expressing frustration openly. (And I'm not sure the arm waving is even an attempt to show people up... I honestly think he has no idea how it looks to people watching--he's just trying to get his teammates attention because he's got space.)

I see somebody who appears to have an introverted personality, is very fit, can run well with the ball, crosses well... and simply has no ability to put the ball in the net consistently. Why he seems to be everybody's favorite whipping boy around here, I truly have no idea.

ay, que mujeres

Nothing better to do than cluck like a bunch of hens about a player's body language. I hope you weren't drinking Gallos my friend, because that beer is just too masculine for such a conversation.

So he had an assist and a game no better or worse than his teammates. And people found it not enough to just bash him for three pages straight in the post-game thread. They had to start a thread specifically for him.

Go figure.

I'm actually a bit surprised thats its only 3 pages. This is Bigsoccer remember. :D

Do I think he needs to start stepping up more... sure. But I also think that of almost everyone on the team.

When he misses OPEN NETS he causes our team to miss out on points. Period. His play has been nothing short of mediocre so far this season and he is being drastically outplayed in every aspect of the game both on and off the field by Joshua Gros - who is sitting on the bench solely because Convey warrants playing time by the powers that be.

Bench Convey for a game to send him a message. I would.

Every week this comes up in some way or another.

Despite the missed shot, he played better than Olsen, Moreno, Carroll, Dema, and Stewart.

The game picked up when Gros came in because he subbed Olsen, who was very weak.

Does he want to play for DCU? Who knows? He's 21, and probably tired of losing year in, year out. Who isn't?

Aw, he's just struggling a bit to find his form.

I think this is still the residual from getting the shaft on that failed transfer last year. He's not really had the same game since. He'll come back around yet.

If you guys don't want him, we'll take him over in LA and give you any two players you want not named Ruiz or Califf.

Deal?

He's playing - starting - for our country IN WORLD CUP QUALIFYING. F his form.

He's around 21 years old and has been in MLS around four seasons. If he doesn't know what it's like to be a professional soccer player by now - he never will. Man needs to grow some balls and dedicate himself to being a professional - and an adult.

He'll come back around yet.

In the immortal words of Tom Petty:

Bobby - "Don't come around here no more..."

Convey straight up for Kirovski and an allocation? I'd take that in an instant.

so would I.

Don't believe we have any allocations to give though.

Of course...Convey isnt going to be around too much longer in MLS so it would be a silly trade. Honestly, I don't get why you guys bash the kid so much. I'd love to have him on my team.

As this seems to be a thread devoted to Bobby-bashing, I am going to assume (hoping I don't make anyone into an ass :D ) that his assist today doesn't register in anyone's memory. Personally, I thought he could have played better, but I don't think a mediocre game means that he doesn't want to play for DCU anymore. And I have to agree with bofahey re: Bobby's body language in the Nats and in DC. His missed goal is painful, and he should get reamed by Nowak (about four times, because this is the second missed open goal), but I don't see the need to bash someone who played better than at least half his teammates (Moreno, EZ, Carroll, Olsen...).

Really? So there wasn't a Burn player standing on the goal line blocking the so-called "open net." I guess I must be remembering wrong.

Like I said, he should have scored, just like Beckham shouldn't have missed his penalty shot the other day. I don't think that makes either of them crap though.

And that's why you'd never make a good GM.
