First, who the hell is Scott Booth? Second, why would DCU even talk to this guy?

Booth used to play for Aberdeen in Scotland (he's a striker)

Third, why the hell does a Crew fan even care?

Sorry, I forgot I'm not allowed to follow what other teams are doing. My bad.

I did a little searching, and it looks like he played for Borrusia Dortmund in 97-98 and then played for Scotland in the World Cup in France. Since then, it looks like he's been at small clubs and was about to go to an even smaller club (Caley Thistle or Ross County). He is 32.

Actually Scott Booth was a very good player.. It's all gone downhill for him right now but he was good enough to play with Dortmund during some good years for them and he was one of the few Scottish players IIRC who were actually dangerous as opposed to the lambs they trudge out nowadays..

I don't think he would have helped a great deal but he was a decent European player..

What is he - the ugly stepbrother of John Spencer? Good riddance!

The most goals Booth ever scored was 8. I don't think we're missing much. He's a pretty decent SPL player. I think even with this year's 8 goals, 3 were from pens.

Yup.

I think the title of this thread should be "Scott Booth chooses retirement over DC United's salary cap figure which would have been a huge cut in pay for him."

And I would say MLS defenses are better than SPL defenses (Celtic and Rangers obviously excepted). Most gmaes are played against the giants of Motherwell, Dunfermline, Partick Thistle, and the like.

Oh great, now you've went and pissed off the SPL fans. ;)

He knew he couldn't compete with the legendary strike force of Esky and Moreno.

Oh for shame...a product of the Scottish Premier League doesn't want to play for United. And yet, I feel strangely unhurt.

bergin seems to think he was just offered a trial and not a contract

Some of the back story on this is now known. At no time did DCUnited offer a trial or any type of contract to Booth. In fact, the team never talked with Booth or his agent at any time. What did happen is that the chairman of Rangers (SPL) suggested that DCUnited "take a look" at Booth. The team declined.

What it sounds like is that the chairman was looking to help out Booth. My guess is that the agent took what the chairman said, "I'll ask DCUnited", to "Look at the team in Washington, DC . . . They're interested!" Unfortunately, Booth's statement that DCUnited was interested is flat out incorrect. Sounds like shady agent speak.

......Sounds like shady agent speak.

Do they do that, too? I thought only politicians and night-club owners would do something like that! ;)
