I don't understand want he wants Adu to learn from Rooney. Score more goals? Get bigger?

Sort of nice generic advice. Kid, go out & have fun and don't put too much pressure on yourself.

Apparently he is asking Freddy to learn to be a larger but slower older guy soon.

I honestly dont see how. Its about ROONEY... I think everyone else around here is letting their Times bashing get in the way.
Anyone that doesnt think Haydon is one of the better DC soccer writers is on crack... :D

Exactly! But look at the title and framing. That's what's stupid.

couldn't he have just written an article about rooney? did he really need to throw Mr. Freddy out there? the freddy inclusion doesn't make any sense...
according to the DCU website, freddy is 5'8" 140lbs
according to the everton website, rooney is 5'10" 169lbs (converted from stones)
freddy is 15 yrs old....rooney is 18yrs old (19 soon?)
his only actual advice other than "learn from rooney" was to go hit the weight room. he doesn't really need to learn that from rooney, does he? i'm sure anybody could have told him that. its not like freddy is gonna grow 2 inches and 30lbs by next week, altho maybe (i doubt it) by the time he's 18 he might be that big.
rooney and freddy are two completely different types of players. rooney is an all-out striker (#11) while freddy likes to play withdrawn (#9). even were they the same age and size they would play differently.
you might as well say "Hey q2, you should go be like rooney", or "hey convey, if you wanna go to england, you have to be like rooney" or "hey beasley, if you want a higher transfer fee go be like rooney"
i can understand comparisons to "somewhat" similar players or roles, but this one is way off.
Having said that, i appreciate the article and anything soccer related!

Looks like you guys are on top of this, so I don't have much else to say. It's an article about Wayne Rooney (who is quite a player at the moment) and for some reason Freddy Adu's name was thrown in, perhaps to make the article 'locally relevant'? Very stupid indeed.

From the article:
In England's opening game against France, he beat off one of the best defenses in the world to win a penalty kick.
I can only believe that the French defense is the only one in the world that would stand still for that...how distracting
