View Full Version : Which version of "The Prisoner" DVD Megaset should I get?

I'm strongly considering buying The Prisoner DVD Megaset, which includes all 17 episodes of the landmark 1967 series along with other related goodies.

However, the two online sites I found that sells the Megaset seem to sell nearly identical versions to each other except that the A&E Store version (http://store.aetv.com/html/product/index.jhtml?id=70335) apparently shows the episodes in their original order ("Digitally re-mastered and presented in its original order...") while the Amazon.com version (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005NKCQ/104-5552405-3477538?v=glance) apparently shows the episodes in a "fan-preferred" order ("Patrick McGoohan's complete classic 17-episode TV series is presented in the fan-preferred viewing order...").

Are those two versions really different from each other as described? If so, which version would you recommend I get and why?

A better place to ask this question might be: www.dvdtalk.com

You'll probably have more people there who are familiar with the respective DVD sets.

I have the A&E version. I can't tell that there is much of a difference other than order, and if that's the case it doesn't matter. Both versions have the same bonus features and alternate version of The Chimes of Big Ben. What I would recommend though is going to Best Buy, if you have one near you. I bought it for $79.99, which is much cheaper than either of these two sites.

Thanks for your help, everyone!

The nearest Best Buy to me doesn't carry it, but there's another one just slightly further away that I'll need to check with.

I finally found the time to visit the local store and buy the Megaset.

The only version the store had in stock was the "fan-preferred viewing order" one. Though I have yet to view the DVD's (I'll try to rectify that at the end of this week), the "Episode Order Debate:" explanations on the back of each DVD case makes me feel better about getting this version of the Megaset, as some of the episodes were indeed originally broadcast out of order and such. :)

Be seeing you!

By the way, wasn't there talk a few years ago of filming a theatrical version of The Prisoner, with Number Six played by either Harrison Ford or Mel Gibson?
