kanye west - through the wire
not only is it oppurtunism and dedication of the highest order in terms of song ideas, but that easy groove just brings the whole package home - brilliant open lyrics, great delivery and that sweet sped up chaka khan sample - honestly, i get the chills up the spine everytime kanye brings the second verse to its rousing close

Franz Ferdinand, "Matinee".
Speaking of FF, has anybody else seen their performance at Glastonbury on Friday (http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/glastonbury/watch_listen.shtml)? It's great to see a band that looks like they're really enjoying themselves for once.

Ambulance Ltd. - "Primitive (The Way That I Treat You)"
Franz Ferdinand - "Tell Her Tonight"
The Killers - "Somebody Told Me"
Goldfrapp - "Strict Machine" or "Train" (ok, so it was released last year, but I don't care)

I've only heard some previews of their album. All of the songs seemed okay, but I was most impressed with "Take Me Out" (I know, I know, a radio single... so sue me) and "Jacqueline".

I prefer "All Falls Down", actually. Nice lyrics, great video. I love that he mocks himself and the hip hop culture for the materialism, but then he goes ahead and rocks the Rollies anyway because "We're all self conscious/I'm just the first to admit it". He is at once arrogant and self deprecating.

really he could have 3 or 4 legitimate choices for this thread - through the wire just has that little something extra for me when considering the circumstances of the recording

Britney Spears - Toxic

Keane - Somewhere Only We Know
Otherwise, I'll join the chorus for Franz Ferdinand, but I'll go with Darts of Pleasure, simply for the fact that they sing in German.

That makes two of us. Every time I hear that song I can't get the damned thing out of my head.
