View Full Version : I Think England Deserves A Rematch

From what i could see on Sol Campbel's goal, it was legit. Although Terry was in the middle, he was actually ducking away. As a result, Ricardo had plenty of space to punch the ball. But the ball reached Campbel's head first. The linesman could have clearly seen that. But this stupid Swiss Ref (probably had something against England as the Swiss lost 3-0 to England and he appeared to always call a fault on Vassel although that guy didn't do anything out of the line but i agreed Vassel was most of the time useless last night) from 20 yards away ruled out the goal without consulting the linesman who should have a better view of what actually happened. But the linesmen are also Swiss, maybe another conspiracy theory to let the host win.
But honestly, without all the conspiracy theory and the Swiss factor, I truly believe that England throughly deserves a rematch since if Campbell is allowed, England would have won. I mean it was such an important decision for the ref to disallow a goal at the 90th minute, which would have decided the game, without consulting the linesman. Maybe, it's time video replay should be used when the fault is not really clear cut and when the referee's subjective decision could really sway the result (which in this case it does).
How about a mass protest to UEFA and a rematch?

I know the likelihood of UEFA considering a rematch will be one to the trillions, meaning a mission impossible. But most of other sports have been more accomodative towards further results verification i.e. Formula One, tennis, etc. Why not football since football referees have been known to be quite subjective and prone to errors i.e. HoG, etc. Since other aspects of football are improving i.e. player's salaries skyrocketing, etc, why not the refereeing. Is FIFA/UEFA listening to this? Since today's sports will be meaningless without the fans, why shouldn't FIFA/UEFA listen to what the fans have to say instead of relying on their fat-ass judgement.

Umm.....there's a difference between "out and in" and "foul and no foul".
See Basketball, hockey, football.
Also, the US wants a rematch against Germany. What next?

There would be no chance at all for a rematch. Look at previous matches when England lost because of bad reffing. Like in 98 against Argentina.

Lets not be ridiculous. England lost. It was a good call by the ref. Even Gary Neville said that people should just cut the excuses and admit that they were not good enough. Period. Too many supporters overrate England also feel that England is a power, because they exported football to the rest of the world.
It's unlikely that England will win a World Cup or European Cup in the next 50 years. England has never won a European Cup. The have a World Cup from 40 years ago and have won nothing since. The Greeks on their have a European Championship in their hands as do the Danes.
Lets not overrate teams. As I've stated many times, the results speak for themselves.

Portugal was the better team throughout the match. The refs call was good. England's NT is good and lots of talent but Portugal is still a bit better. England also lost to Portugal at Euro 2000 and no excuses for that loss.
Portugal got screwed against France in the semis of Euro 2000 by the ref but eventually we have to move on. I see some England fans will never let go of the loss in Euro 2004.
They should start by changing their starting goalkeeper.
