I like the shape of the team for the upcoming qualifiers having seen the team in this tournie....
GK
James has been solid and will continue..
Defence
Ferdinand will return from suspension and replace terry in central defence.
I reckon his return will iron out those problems we had from set pieces.
Neville is solid at right back ,cole is getting better at left back and campbell is rio's obvious defensive partner.
midfield
Sven wisely ditched the stupid diamond formation and moved to a more straightforward 4 man midfield.......Lampard/gerrard/scholes/beckham constantly interchanged positions throughout the match .
I like that setup and I hope svens sticks with it.
attack
The rooney/owen combination can be our strike partnership for years to come.....The days of using heskey are over .Rooney played well in all his games and owen started to rediscover his touch in the last 2 games..
The only change will be ferdinand for terry in the next games..

Doesn't Ashley Cole merit a little bit more credit than "getting better?" He buried C. Ronaldo today. It was an amazing performance. Too bad the right side of the back line was so slow to react. Both goals were scored as the defense got caught watching.

Cole really did a top notch job, I was one who had my doubts coming into the tournament about him, but not anymore.

It was a young team in Euro 2004, the experience will do them a lot of good. There are some good young players out there that can break in to improve the squad and maybe the first team, really need one on left midfield.
Having Gerrard and Lampard playing together for Chelsea will also be a big bonus, keep them as centre midfield partnership. Roll on Wright-Phillips, Alan Smith, Glenn Johnson and the others.

--------------James
Samuel-Ferdinand-Campbell-Ashley
Beckham-Gerrard-Lampard-Scholes
-----------Owen-Rooney
It doesn't mater though, as long as we have Eriksson in charge, we'll never win anything. An overrated manager, defended by most England fans because we have improved since 2000 under him. Considering the talent we had coming through, and how crap we were in 2000, improving on that wasn't hard. Unfortunately he won't get the sack though.

From the current team:
James out for Robinson
Terry out for Ferdinand
And if he doesn't buck up his ideas Beckham out for... anyone, I couldn't give a ********.

Terry is brilliant, but I think he needs another 2 season under his belt before he becomes as good as Ferdinand, who, let's face it, we missed. I'm not sure about putting Beckham out of the team though, played out of position for a whole season R Madrid, has hampered his form IMO. Hopefully the idiots at Real will move him back out on the right.

GK - anyone in for James - this tosser had one last chance to redeem himself and he didn't even get near, saving one of the penalties! We need a an urgent replacement!
FB - Gary Neville did what was necessary, but we need to move on, although I can't think who will replace him. Ashley Cole was superb and we've also got Wayne Bridge.
CH - Rio will replace Terry in the short term, but I see John Terry as the captain of the future, I really don't think we saw the best of him as he didn't look fit. Sol is safe enough.
MF - Lampard scores goals, despite disappearing for long spells, Gerrard is safe, Scholes and Beckham need replacing, they are no longer competitive at this level IMHO. Alan Smith in the hole, Ledley King could play there (he does for Spurs), Joe Cole, Scott Parker, Dyer et al, could all stake a claim.
FWD - Rooney and Owen can remain for the immediate near future, with Defoe as a supersub.
Sven - must go - one dimensional cack and conservatism will win us fcuk-all.

James has to go, he never helps out his defence and makes those in front of him nervous. Good shot stopper, but that's not enough at this level, the goalkeeper needs to command his area. Robinson for now, Kirkland if he can stay fit for more than two months in a row.
The back four did a decent job in the tournament, but Rio obviously comes in for Terry who I thought was caught out of position on several occasions, notably for Postiga's goal. A couple more years of Champions League football will do him no harm at all. We were a bit unlucky with the injuries to Southgate and Woodgate coming into the tournament too, with all five of these fit there's decent strength in depth at centre back, not even mentioning Ledley King who played well against France.
Cole was excellent, Gary Neville keeps his place at the moment by default as there' no obvious replacement. And M1ke, Jlloyd Samuel is a left-back.
While the midfield four are definitely the best four midfielders in the country at the moment, I still don't think this is the answer to the problems on the left side. Personally I'd change the formation to 3-5-2, but Sven is pretty stubborn on this score. If he sticks to four across the midfield, I'd like to see Joe Cole on the left.
The front two have played well and are untouchable at the moment. Rooney had a great tournament and was unlucky to get injured.
My team for the World Cup Qualifiers (3-5-2):
-------------Kirkland
------Terry-Ferdinand-Campbell
G. Neville-------------------A. Cole
------Beckham-Lampard-Gerrard
------------Rooney-Owen
Tough on Paul Scholes, of the four he's the one I'd sacrifice. Also, some squad players need to be given the boot, yes I'm talking about you Phil Neville and Heskey and young blood brought in like Defoe and Parker.
Lastly, the coach needs to discover a more attacking character or bugger off. Sven's caution doesn't suit the English up tempo attacking game.

Gerrard, beckham, james And Scholes Should Not Be Allowed An England Team Again, They Were An Embarrassment

Well if the first thing you want to do is sack Eriksson, that is fine but I hope you are not the one who gets hired. This lineup is absolute PANTS!!!
