Look, as a fan, I couldn't care one way or another about Chivas, as I'm a Metros fan (altho moving to DC may make me switch allegiences, as I'm hardly a very passionate one). But I think Chivas USA (and/or Club America USA) will be very good for US Soccer.

If there's one thing that US Soccer does TERRIBLY, it's find and utilize hispanic soccer players. Look at our team....of the few hispanic soccer players on it, most of them are either from majority caucasian neighborhoods (Reyna) or from another country entirely (Mastroeni). Having a team like Chivas that wants to field hispanics and can't get too many from Latin America means they have to mine the hispanic pockets in America...where I believe there's a host of talent that will eventually suit up for the Nats.

I, for one, can not wait to watch the first true MLS derby on television next year!

I'm excited about Chivas, no real reason other then attendance and spice for the league. As far as Mastroeni goes, I grew up with him in the North Phoenix neighborhood of Moon Valley. He moved there when he was 4, I believe, and really is hardly from another country. True, born overseas, but his whole life as far as he remembers he grew up in suburban Arizona. But if you want to make a point that he grew up in a majority white neighborhood, I'll back that up (though few neighborhoods in Arizona are without a good dose of people of latin [whatever that is] heratige).
