Will it be lower-bowl only, or will they open up both levels?

Probably both bowls..since Payne and the Boys didn't know they were getting the All-Star game. Although its unpredictable since Madrid isn't coming now. Operate under the ASSUMPTION OF LOWER BOWL ONLY.

I seriouly doubt they'll open the entire stadium. What sort of attendance to the All Star games usually bring?

2003 LA MLS/Chivas 27,000
2002 RFK MLS/USMNT 31,096
2001 SJ East/West 23,512
2000 Crew St E/W 23,495
1999 SD E/W 23,227
1998 Orlando MLS World!/USMNT 34,416
1997 NJ E/W 24,816
1996 NY E/W 78,416 (WTF?!)

I thought the last one was a typo until I saw that it was a double-header with Brazil vs FIFA All Stars. More MLS math I suppose.

RFK 2004 will probably pull numbers (with Freddy), but I don't know if it's worth it to open up the top.

If I remember that one was at the Rose Bowl (might have been NY) and it was during the first season (novelty game). I also remember blimp shots of a packed crow and Valderrama won MVP.

Since this gig is being run by MLS and not the DC United front office, they may have some things to say about it. My guess is they will open the upper deck - I have a 50-50 chance of being right.

Yeah, I guess you do. My guess is they won't open the upper deck. I have a 50-50 chance too. ;)

This is exactly the sort of game that you close the upper bowl for if you want people to know that you really mean it when it comes to down-sized stadiums.

In any event, a huge crowd isn't likely. (Only 31k came to RFK for the game two years ago which featured the USMNT right after the successful World Cup run.)

The MLS allstar game was very well received in 1996. In fact, the biggest applause of that incredible crowd was for Tab Ramos' very nice goal for the East squad. At the end of the day, the largest sport audience ever at Giants Stadium was mighty impressed with the MLS game, as I recall. The place filled up early, even though the FIFA event was the bottom half.

By the way, if they market this 2004 sucker to the El Salvadoran community, we could see a pretty damn big crowd. Of course, there will also be Mr. Adu. My prediction: 35K.

Cheers,
Tim
