U17s in Italy (?)

Yesterday's MLS Confidential mentioned that the U-17s were headed to Italy, I believe at the end of the month. Is there any more info on this trip? Is this a tournament or a tour? What teams are participating?

Also mentions that MLS is trying to sign several U17s including Gonzalez, who has generated interest from Europe, including ManCity. From the email:

"3. L.A. MEETING: MLS deputy commissioner Todd Durbin and Anschutz Entertainment Group president Tim Leiweke met with U.S. under-17 midfielder Guillermo Gonzalez yesterday.

Gonzalez, 16, is pondering whether to sign a Project-40 contract with MLS. Several foreign clubs have also shown interest in him and he has reportedly been invited to train with Manchester City.

He was born in Southern California and has trained several times with the Galaxy"

The U-17s will Travel to Formia, Italy. They are playing an International Tourny. Countries include Italy, Russia and Yugoslavia.

Translation:
Fornia, Italy is hosting an international soccer tournament to remember the victims of the September 11th attacks on the WTC twin towers.

The U-17 National teams from Enlgand, Ireland, USA, Uruguay, Czech Republic, Russia, Yugoslavia and Italy are participating.

The opening ceremony will take place September 11th. The tournament will end in Fornia on the the 15th.

The tournament is sponsored by Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and a bunch of other groups in the Lazio region.

Hmm, pretty cool idea. There is another U-17 tournament taking place in Venezuela with nearly all of the Commebol countries (except Uruguay) and Costa Rica and Mexico. I guess this explains why Uruguay didn't send a team to Venezuela.

Sounds like a quality tournament for the boys. THe Comebol tournament should be interesting too.

In the Venezuela tournament, Costa Rica got hammered 7-0 by Argentina, but they came back to beat Bolivia in the next game. Mexico opens today in the other group.

The U-17s should get four games in Italy. The three group games and then the placement game against the other group.

yea, I heard they are all leaving on september 8 I know that a couple of guys are hurt and all and I think they aren't taking all 30 but they should have enough back at IMG to have a good training throughout the week.

nah actually the he is part of a group of players that are involved in ODP as a Euro Player...its basically kids who live in europe because they rents are in the military have other jobs but are US citizens ...I heard the kid is pretty sick people who went to that place in Cali to train in the summer for the residency team like tryout thing or something said he was nasty
