Zlin gets a good 1-1 draw away to Myllykosken Pallo 47 (Finland). Meanwhile, Teplice falls 1-0 on the road to MFC Sopron (Hungary).

Teplice should get a result at home this weekend to advance to the next round and I would think Zlin can win at least 1-0 to do the same.

just wanted to say hi,I'm Czech you know, and it's quite weird funny feeling to see some canadian guy cares so much for Czech football!!!:-D bytheway, there is some news you may not be happy about as big fan,not sure you came across the case of bribery(?),where few referees and clubs' chairmen figure...nothing proved yet though, think police should give evidence somewhat in summer...

Bribery... I heard something about that. Does this involve 1. FC Synot? I heard there is a small chance they might be relegated to the second division...

Yeah, I am a big fan of all Czech soccer, but especially Simga. I have spent about 8 months in the Czech Republic over the past few years and hope to return someday soon.

What club do you support in the Czech Republic?

well, yes it's 1.FC Synot having most troubles till presence, owner and bosses are being inspected,in fact the owner(Synot is betting office)resigned,so the club is not named Synot anymore and is waiting for result to see about possible relegation and getting new owner who they wouldn't survive without...I'm so curious how this case would end cos it's kind of known thing about bribery which works in all levels, but there were never any evidence to do anything about it,so I wonder if we will be able to see what's really going on and possibly clean the league from that ********,we shall see I guess...and yes, since I'm from Brno,I support 1.FC Brno though they are such crap, and it's sad really since Brno is 2nd biggest city yet we have one of best attendation, there used to be around 20,000 fans for home game not long ago which is quite ubelievable in Czechia,so I just can't understand there is no money around to work on some better team..so than I just support anyone who plays nice footbal, like Banik Ostrava,Slavia Praha..and I'm really curious about next season Sparta Praha since they have new young crazy coach who I like and wish them luck and hope to get to Ch.league and make some good result maybe:-)let me know when you are around Brno, can check together if our team got any better:-)

I have been to Brno before, but that was a few years ago. When I go to the Czech Republic I always stay in Olomouc. :)

Thanks for the update on Synot. Bohemians Praha will be promoted in Synot are relegated... correct? Please post any updates of the Synot... when you hear of any news.

Sparta has a decent draw in the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League.... They will play APOEL Nicosia (Cyprus).

Both Czech clubs advance to the 2nd round of the Inter-Toto Cup.

Teplice beat Sopron (Hungary) 3-1 today to advance 3-2 on aggregate. Zlin squeeked by MyPa 3-2 and 4-3 on aggregate.

The second round begins this coming weekend. Here is a look at the game involving the Czech clubs.

Teplice will play Shinnik Yaroslavl of Russia.
Zlin travels to Belgium to play VC Westerlo.
Slovan Liberec makes the trip next door to play FK ZTS Dubnica nad Vahom of Slovakia.

Three tough ties for the Czech clubs, but I would be happy with two clubs advancing.

Shinnik Yaroslavl (Russia) 2 Teplice (Czech Republic) 0
(Shinnik Yaroslavl win 4-1 on aggregate)

Liberec (Czech Republic) 5 Dubnica (Slovakia) 0
(Liberec win 7-1 on agregate)

Not bad for the Czech Republic..... only one team knocked out. Good win by Zlin!

3rd round - 1st leg of the InterToto Cup

Liberec (Czech Republic) 1 Roda JC Kerkrade (Netherlands) 0
- Decent result for Liberec, but a second goal would have been nice. For some reason I suspect a 1-0 lead going into the Netherlands might just be enough for Liberec to advance to the fourth round.

Zlin (Czech Republic) 2 Atletico Madrid (Spain) 4
- Zlin are all but done. I can't see them winning 2-0 in Madrid. Four away goals to pull back is just too much.

UEFA Intertoto (http://www.uefa.com/Competitions/IntertotoCup/index.html):

In third round results:
Zlin def. Atletico, 2nd match: 2-0, but Atletico wins the series based on away goals (4)
Liberec draws Roda, 2nd match: 1-1, and wins the series on with a win and a draw.

UEFA cup (http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UEFACup/news/Kind=1/newsId=199252.html):

SK Sigma Olomouc and SK Slavia Praha will be part of the second qualifying round matches (august 12 & 26). I couldn't see information on what teams they would draw matches against.

UEFA Champions League: (http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/news/Kind=1/newsId=209262.html)

Sparta Praha gets started in their second qualifying round draw against APOEL (cyp) this Wednesday (7/28).

Thanks for the update Czechmarc, and welcome to the boards.

Thanks. Speaking of updates, this just in:

AC Sparta Praha finished with goals in the 83rd and 89th minute to draw with APOEL 2:2. The return leg in Prague is set for August 4th as part of the qualifying rounds for the Champions League.

Today, Slovan Liberec beat Nantes in UEFA Intertoto's semi-final round, 1:0, on a 27th minute goal. The return match will be played in France on August 4th.

If Liberec wins or ties in the second leg, they move on to the final round. They could even move on if they lose -- see how it can happen here:

"For all matches in the competition, clubs play two matches against each other on a home and away basis, with the club scoring the greater aggregate of goals qualifying for the next round. In the event of both teams scoring the same number of goals, the team which scores more goals away qualifies. If this proves inconclusive, extra-time of two periods of 15 minutes is played after the second match. If during extra-time both teams score the same number of goals, away goals count double (ie. the visiting team advances). If no goals are scored during extra-time, the winner is decided by penalty kicks."

UEFA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round Draw
Slavia Prague (Czech Republic) v Dinamo Tbilisi (Georgia)
Nistru Otachi (Moldova) v Sigma Olomouc (Czech Republic)

I am pleased with the draw for Sigma Olomouc against Nistru Otachi. Two years ago Sigma drew the most difficult team in their pot (FK Sarajevo), so playing a club from Moldova is good news. I know little about the Moldovan league, but I did see FC Construcul (or something like that) play FC Synot a few years back in the Inter-Toto Cup. The away game in Moldova could prove to be tricky... however I fully expect Sigma to get a result at home. Otachi beat Shakhtyor Soligorsk (Belarus) 3-2 on aggregate in the first round. Sigma do Toho! :D

Not a bad result for Sparta (I will take the two away goals). They should be able to get a result in Prague, but stranger things have happened. Should Sparta beat APOEL they will play the winner of KF Tirana (ALB) vs Ferencvaros (HUN) in the Champions League 3rd qualifying round.

Banik Ostrava received a difficult draw in the Champions League 3rd qualifying round. They will be playing Bayer Leverkusen (Germany)....

UEFA Intertoto result:

Nantes over Liberec 2:1, evening the series at 1 win a piece -- however Liberec goes through on the strength of the lone away goal in the series (the teams had also tied in aggregate goals, with 2 a piece).

Next up is FC Schalke from Germany. The first of a two-legged series will be played in Germany August 10 (I think). The winner of this series gets a chance at making some noise in the UEFA cup.

UEFA Champions League result:

Sparta over Cypriot side APOEL 2:1. They move on and apparently play against Hungarian side Ferencvaros in third round qualifying.

Thanks for the updates. I forgot about the Liberec Inter-Toto match. Good to see them make it to the final round of the Cup. Another Czech club in the UEFA Cup is never a bad thing.

Sparta had more trouble then I expected yesterday at home. Hopefully they can pull things together in the next round. The Hungarian club will not be easy...

Intertoto result:

Well Liberec lost to home team and German side Schalke 04 by the score of 2:1. After being down 2:0 in the first half, Liberec got their goal in about the 75th minute.

I had thought that the way Schalke entered this series (2 wins and 7-1 aggregate over Esbjerg) Liberec wouldn't stand much of chance.

But the Czech side did well to keep it a one-goal loss, with the plus of scoring an away goal. Liberec will still need to win it's home game by either a shutout or two goal differential to assure a spot in the UEFA cup (though they would still have chance, decided by penalty kicks, to advance on a 2:1 win).

We'll see soon enough. Deciding game to be played August 24.

Sparta seems to be in the same boat as Liberec (Intertoto Cup)...though Sparta didn't get the ever imporatant away goal. This means that they can't afford the type of mistake their defense made today (apparently, the goal keeper was left alone on the only goal).

As for Banik Ostrava -- well, get out the trumpet and start playing taps. They we're lucky enough to get through the first half down only 1:0. That luck, however, ran out in the second as Bayer Leverkusen scored 4 goals in the final 30 minutes.

Slavia and Sigma play their matches in the UEFA cup tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Otaci (Moldova) 1 Sigma Olomouc 2

Otaci scored the first goal in the 50th minute, but Roman Hubnik replied for Sigma only four minutes later. Petr Babnic scored the dramatic winner in the 89th minute. The win for Sigma sets them up for the possibilty of advancing to the next round.

Slavia Praha defeated Dinamo Tbilsi 3-1 today. Dinamo took the shock 1-0 lead after 12 minutes of play. It took Slavia until the 60th minute to score the equaliser... thanks to Aduato.

The away goal could come back to haunt Slavia in the return leg. My gut says Slavia will get at least a tie in Georgia to advance to the next round in the UEFA Cup.
