Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy wants Wayne Rooney to team up with him at Old Trafford. Van Nistelrooy is leading Holland's attack at Euro 2004 in Portugal, where Rooney has played a starring role for England. Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with big-money moves for Everton striker Rooney, and van Nistelrooy is a big fan of the 18-year-old.

"He is a phenomenal talent and the prospect of him pulling on a United shirt is frightening,'' van Nistelrooy told the Sunday Mirror.

"I don't know many clubs that wouldn't want him in their side. He is an incredible player.

"And if he does become available, Manchester United should do everything in their power to sign him.

"It certainly excites me to think he could be playing at United next season.

"Anyone who has seen him play knows what a talent he is. Nothing seems to worry him."

lol, is Ruud saying 'I don't like Saha' or is he just genuinely excited about the boy? no pun intended :D Methinks abit of both!!

Ruud, Saha, Smith and Rooney wouldn't be overkill...plenty of matches for all of them. You need that kind of depth to compete for the silverware. Plus, they won't all be here forever.

Ruud wants to retire completely in 2008 so Rooney would be in his prime then...

Wow - Rooney or Gerrard, Rooney or Gerrard. Geez - we can't afford both (we aren't Chelsea).

I think we *need* Gerrard the most but, strangely enough, I think Rooney would be the better buy. The problem is that, after Euro 2004, his stock just rose so high that he may be out of our price range (********ing PLC).

It's not that it would be overkill, but it would be that you have 4 strikers that could all start and you run the risk of becoming Chelsea with too many players vying for the same position than is good for you. You need 2 quality strikers and one or two that are almost of the same skill, but just below so that they know they should be on the bench, but not starting. That way they are happy to get in and do their jobs. Just how I see things. Although if they do start complaining, it's not as if Ferguson has any sacred cows. He'll just sell them off.

Ruud, Saha, Smith and Rooney will give MU enough depth in attack but the problem is that everyone except for Smith, have the qualities to be in the starting XI. And Ruud have said he would like Rooney to be his strike partner next season, so what about Saha? Is he going to the bench or might we have to sell him? Also Smith said that he didn't come to MU to sit on the bench.

Competition is good but I fear something will happen like in the case of Butt and Forlan who argue they didn't get enough playing time.

According to MU official website, SAF is ready to seal a deal for Rooney that will "rock" the football world. I don't know but Ģ50m is too much for a player like Rooney and if MU didn't splash that much for Ronaldihno I doubt we will do the same to get Rooney, also considering our depth at striker. So I agree with you that we need Gerrard the most.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Didn't Everton just put the price at 82 Million Euros? In other words say "He's not for sale."..
I'm not sure if it was dollars or Euro's I read but it's about the same lately..

i must have been dreaming when they signed mr. Heinze

As for having 4 good strikers. Utd won the treble with 4 good strikers and all but ruud are versatile. Rooney didnt start every game for utd so he isnt going to start every game for utd

You'll have to pay at least 50 mil. pounds if you want him. And I don't see that happening.

Precisely how large of a bet would you want to make that he goes for nowhere near 50?

That's bluster. My guess is he'll go for about 30. Lower, if they only have one real bidder. A bit higher, if a a couple of teams get in a bidding war.

Teams say things. Leeds talked about 10mīs for smith but if the player wants to join one club as was the case with smith and many say that also applies to rooney theres not much everton can do. And with 2 years left on the contract 50m or any number they name is daydreaming

Yeah... dont worry about him... he will be wishing Arsenal had 4 quality strikers when it gets to crunch time for them... I cant believe how short his memmory is - he is usually so astute... How long ago was it that Arsenal was dumped out of 2 competitions in less than a week due to being tired, or some junk like that... there is no forward on that team... lol.. Henry is a withdrawn striker/LW... Bergkamp is a second striker type player who sets others up.. Reyes is a LW, they sold Wiltord.. I dont know... I would rather our situation over their own... this is not a wind up... its just my opinion as I see things...

Rooney will not be sold this summer to anyone but Chelsea.... hopefully they wont buy him and then next summer with just 1 year left he will be sold to manU for 8 million GBP... there will be no Euro to raise his price and he will look like garbage playing for a garbage team... then we will put him on a real team and watch him shine...

8m? Surely you jest. People aren't going to forget how good he looks now just because Everton are crap. He wouldn't likely go for as much as he would this summer, but Everton would make, imo, at least double what you suggest... at least.

I still think he's gone this summer. Most likely, to Chelsea. But a large bid from Man Utd wouldn't shock me at all. Hell, with Liverpool possibly selling Gerrard, I wouldn't put it past them making a bid for them. Very unlikely, given that he'd be even more despised by Everton fans than Alan Smith is by Leeds fans... but you could see Liverpool making the attempt, and stranger things have happened.

It seems if ManU want to stay at the top they will have to make every possible effort to get Rooney and not let Chelsea or Arsenal into the mix. I do not care what Wenger says, he's bluffing. Bergkamp is coming to the end of career (although he is still very good), Reyes plays more like a winger-midfielder, and Rooney teamed with Henry would be unreal.

ManU would have to ditch Gunner and Saha. Rooney and Saha are too similar except that Saha would be washing Rooney's boots on the sideline.

As for Chelski. Money talks and they have that ace.

I completely agree with you about Arsenal. Bergkamp is all wahed up! He doesn't do anyhting for the team. For Henry's sake, I hope he gets a signing from Real or Wenger gets a striker that can keep up with TITI.
